They have sold how many EV’s again? 500?
They revolting and Prius both use gas so they pay a gas tax (well... sometimes they do) the Leaf is the only full plug in I know of right now.
They are wasting more tax payer money bickering about collecting a EV tax that the tax would collect.

Did anyone actually think government would NOT find some way to make up for lost gas tax revenue by taxing alternative-powered cars?
I didn't think so.

What about taxing people who don't own cars for the gas they don't use?
That would generate all kinds of revenue!

Arguing about raising taxes is a deflection from the actual issue: incompetent money management on the part of local, state and federal agencies.
So long as the public allows the issue to be framed in terms of raising taxes, we will lose.

RE :”
SARAH GARDNER: Gasoline taxes pay for road maintenance and repair. But cash-poor states are beginning to worry about dwindling road funds as more drivers go electric. Today, a Washington state senate committee considers a bill that would make EV drivers pay $100 a year. That would make up for the gas taxes they won't pay. Steven Lough is with the Seattle Electric Vehicle Association. He says any special fee on electric cars is just one more roadblock to their adoption. STEVEN LOUGH: Some people are paying from $1,000 to $2,000 to have their garage wired up for these higher-powered charging infrastructures. Another $100, some people are going to say, forget it!”
Socialist/Green Nazi laugh of the day ping.
Why dont those idiots just raise the taxes on electricity?? My only guess is they consider driving a personally owned car a luxury but home electricity more of a necessity. Not explained.
Considering the green/electric rates here in Maryland, gasoline is still a much better deal than electric even with all those state issued electric car tax credits. Occasionally I see an electric car on the road here, it's like they are driving their kids Christmas toy car.

"Look at your utility bill....There is already Fed tax on electric." True, but this is the state, not the fedgov. Actually a pretty reasonable step, given that neither "all plugin" or hybrids pay fully for their share of road maintenance.

More words than are needed are used, when describing anything Liberal:
Washington state wants to tax(STOP)
other examples: Obama wants to tax(STOP)
Democrats want to tax(STOP).
After the word “tax” there is NO need to go further!

This is like when Congress wanted to impute a rental income on homeowners living in their own homes, so they could tax the income.

Just wait until I get my electricity futures market up and ruining. Just planning on help the market level out demand and if it doubles what you pay, well the hell with you and your anti free market agenda.

Why don’t they tax people who don’t drive at all, to make up for both the gas AND the electricity they don’t use! Soon, you won’t be able to afford NOT to have a car!

They already do that, it is called a personal property tax. My vehicles are all paid for, but each year I am forced to pay taxes on my paid for property.

it’s all about finding new ways to pay for growing budget deficits.
No it’s not, it’s all about trying desperately to maintain what isn’t maintainable in a down economy. The only solution is to cut spending, until income is above expenditures. Deficits are indicative of one thing. Insanity!

Will they be legislating car tones for these silent but deadly vehicles (in regards to the blind), too?

They are wasting more tax payer money bickering about collecting a EV tax that the tax would collect. It is against the law for government to use cost-benefit analysis.
