I'll contend that we're really seeing reintensification of the downturn that began in 2007.Yup.
GDP "official" Q4 2010: 3.1%, Q1 2011 1.8%. I expect an official print of a negative GDP number this year. If not in Q2 then in Q3 for sure.

No surprise to me. Talk to the 80% of college grads that can’t find jobs and don’t get counted as “unemployed” by the govtcrats. Well over 5 million are in this category.
Attacking the US economy is what terrorists do best—see takedown of World Trade Center and every action BO and his ratcrats have taken. Obubba has had no less of negative impact on the economy than OBL. Both hate this country.

Only silver lining is that it will drive Obama into early retirement. Possibly far from these shores.

OBAMAVILLE
Gettn a head fake,
watchin' msns take;
All of their pundits oozing foul oil.
Cleann my six gun on my front porch swing.
Felling my blood--
Its beginnin' to boil.
Wasted away again in Obamaville,
Searchin' for a job so I can earn my salt.
Some people claim that Bush is to blame,
But I know it's Obamas fault.
Theres no rhyme or reason,
They are all commitin treason
With nothing to show but a brand new tax or two.
But they are real beauties,
Despotic duties, how they got passed
I haven't a clue.
Wasted away again in Obamaville,
Searchin' for a job so I can earn my salt.
Some people claim that its Bush we should blame,
Now I think,-- hell with them its Obamas fault.
I blew out my flip flop,
Stepped on a pop top;
Cut my heel, but I just cruise on back home.
Because no medical care will the doctors render
They say theres little service I can tender
And theres no need for me to hang on.
Wasted away again in Obamaville
Searchin' for a job so I can earn my salt.
Some people claim that Bush is to blame,
But I know, it's my own damn fault.
Yes, and some people claim that Bush is to blame,
And I know because of my vote it's my own damn fault damn fault.

The good news is that after Palin/Bachman are elected she will cut the US government in half
Every Government job takes 2 out of the private sector, so there's a few million right there
And all those people coming off welfare will mean we can cut that monstrosity- so another few million (and $billions from the budget.
This is ALL IT WOULD TAKE to get us out of this mess.
Welfare is only 23% efficient according to the governments own admissions. That means it costs $73,000 to hand out $27,000 - or, approximately one full time govt employee for every family on welfare.
[note to people unable to grasp a concept- I don't mean LITERALLY one employee per family- I mean EQUIVALENT OF]

Yesterday stocks dropped but so did the yield on the 10 year note reflecting a flight to “quality”. I have always felt deflation is a much more immediate threat than hyperinflation.

You can’t have $5/gal gas and expect positive economic growth.

You are going to see “Stagflation”... Inflation on necessity items like energy, food, and clothing (and other commodities ) and falling prices on those goods that are not as the demand is destroyed for those goods (Electronics, computers, ect). As input prices continue to go up, these items will begin to see a price rise, but the companies will have to eat the cost or lose customers.
Wages will remain stagnate or fall, however, and unemployment will rise.

How do we know the bond/note yields represent a flight to quality? I have been reading it as US Government purchases. Is there some way to differentiate and to know which cause is accurate?

They are not oppressed by our Federal Agencies.

Not quite —
In 2011, the Gummint doesn’t have any money to do another smoke-and-mirrors ‘rescue’ — once it tips over the edge, there ain’t nothin’ to stop it.....
