WASHINGTON (AP) -- The staff director for the Senate Indian Affairs Committee is objecting to the U.S. military's use of the code name "Geronimo" for Osama Bin Laden during the raid that killed the al-Qaida leader.
Geronimo was an Apache leader in the 19th century who spent many years fighting the Mexican and U.S. armies until his capture in 1886.

“Operation Bacon Grease”
Then when they killed him, they coulda just reported, “He’s fried!”
I’m happy about it. We need to hit Obama from every angle at every moment.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. You go Pochahontas!
BWHAAH HEY BIG chief tom tom ...find the nearest totem and put it where the sun don’t shine....howzatt?
Sadly, “Operation redskin,” “Operation squaw,” “Operation Tonto,” and “Operation ‘What you mean WE, white man?’” were already used.
OK, Next time they will use the code name “Tonto”.
It’s just a codename. It was wrong for the Secret Service to give Obama the codename “Renegade” too, when everyone knows it should have been “ArnoldPalmer”
Obama’s macaca moment???
How about Pancho Villa? Or Che?
How about Allahu Akbar???
Geronimo was an Apache leader in the 19th century who spent many years fighting the Mexican and U.S. armies until his capture in 1886.
Loretta Tuell, says it is inappropriate to link whom she calls "one of the greatest Native American heroes" with one of the most hated enemies of the United States.
PUUULEEESE!"
I knew this was coming. It was an insensitive choice. Obama should apologize to the Apache.
Geronamo was not the code for OBL, it was the code word used to say they killed him or captured him.
Well, you knew it wouldn’t be long....
When I first heard of the operation name, I thought it was sophomoric. It’s a name a child would come up with. Once again, Obozo comes off looking line a nine year old clown.
To be fair, he may not have come up with it.
What I think we can take away from this is the humor that they are angry at one of their own for not being politically correct.
Tell me there’s no entertainment value there. ;^)
My BIL’s name is Geronimo. He just happens to be native American Apache specifically. (I know...what are the odds) But I do take exception to it. This man served honorably in the Army and I bet he will too.
Don’t know much about the historical figure with the exception of movie depictions, but even from that the association with OBL seems a bit of a stretch.
If it weren’t for the white man they would be holding sharpened sticks.
The article does not even get history correct. Geronimo did not get captured. He surrendered.
Allah?? oh wait.....
Injun Joe of “Tom Sawyer” fame probably would have been a better choice.
