PITTSBURGH -- Police have arrested two Maryland men accused of stealing elk antlers valued at more than $500,000 from a vendor at the National Rifle Association convention in Pittsburgh.
Police said the victim, a 56-year-old professional elk hunter from Idaho, contacted them Monday night to report that two sets of antlers were stolen from his booth at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center while he was waiting with his truck at a loading dock.
One set of antlers, which has a score of 522 inches, is appraised at $500,000, while the second, which has a score of 486 inches, is appraised at $15,000, police said.
Officers at the convention center detained two men who were seen walking with two sets of antlers, police said.
"We saw something suspicious, and that was a couple of guys taking some elk antlers or horns right out the front door," said convention center general manager Mark Leahy. "When they start carrying things to the end of the building, it's like they're not looking for the truck, something else is going on."

They are only worth what somebody is willing to pay for them. If he ain’t sold them, they ain’t worth sheeet. Certainly the two young fellers weren’t willing to hand over a half mil for them.
No problem. These are apparently shed antlers, so the spread measurement isn’t included. If the total score is for the four of them, they aren’t even all that large. Not that I wouldn’t pick them up if I found them.
If they'd know the insured value, they might have thought better of stealing them. I hope they do ten years...with the other prisoners laughing at them.
Just means they're worth more than he's been offered. Looks like sets from the same animal in two consecutive years. What are they worth? Pretty subjective. I've turned down offers for antlers that make people scratch their heads. If they were mine and someone was caught leaving my house with them, they'd have been worth more than the lives of the thieves.
Busted with expensive antlers. That’ll setcha back!
Maryland “Freak State” DANG!
Oh, dear! They were planning on making some doe, I suppose, but now they’ll be bucking for prison time.
