Why Bin Laden's Death May Benefit the Republicans in 2012
The American Thinker ^ | May 3, 2011 | Adam Shaw

Posted on 05/03/2011 2:41:34 AM PDT by Scanian

After the initial wave of jubilation that followed the announcement of Osama bin Laden's death, the political analysis has begun and the liberal media consensus seems clear: this is an enormous political victory for the President, and it all but guarantees a 2012 election victory for President Obama.

The first part of this is true; it must be conceded that this is an enormous feather in the cap of Mr. Obama, and while there are those of us who will roll our eyes at his failure to acknowledge the contribution of his predecessor to the operation, the feather is deserved. Consequently, we can expect to see a large boost in the polls for Obama, with BBC News already reporting than the bounce could be as much as 10 points. Yet how long this will last remains to be seen.

However, while Obama will almost certainly receive a short-term popularity boost, in terms of the 2012 election there are signs that bin Laden's death may benefit the Republicans rather than the Democrats. There are four main reasons why this may happen:

I tend to loosely agree with this article, but already we’re seeing Obama cashing in on the new wave of patriotism in his remarks the other night.

Every dog has its day, and this is his day. Unlike Bush, who gave the military the opportunty to announce Hussein’s death, Obama of course takes full credit.

INteresting, yesterday Glenn Beck said that George Bush toldhim that the president believe it or not, has few choices in any given situation. Obama had no choice in this matter. He was bound to act in the way he did. So what will he do the next time?

There will be only two possible scenarios for Obama if we are attacked or threatened in the future.

1. Caught up in the confidence of America’s might, Obama will try using his muscle elsewhere, and face, like Jimmy Carter, a stale mate. In other words, I see a conflict in the near future whether it is Libya or some other terrorist group that Obama will not win. They will hijack, murder, reek havoc on us. Obama will find himself powerless.

2. Obama will sink back into his hole and in time show his true cowardice.

EVery dog has its day...

A lot of this story really really smells.

1- INSTANT DNA verification, at the scene? Huh?

2- Two helicopters carried 25 men into compound. ok.
Blew up one copeter.
One helicopter lifted 25 USA men out of scene, PLUS bin Laden’s body, PLUS several captured people, PLUS some other bodies, PLUS all sorts of computer “stuff”. Huh? I call this impossible.

3- OBL’s body taken to a ship and given a 40 min. funeral service (puke) and buried at sea before we the “peons” even know what happened.

4- Pictures might be released after some time (time to create some)?

My gut tells me this whole thing is a phony deal BHO has cooked up with Musharif for some political reason for both parties.

By 2012 this is a distant memory. By next week, people are back to wondering why they have no money and everything costs twice as much as they remember it costing two years ago.

If ObL was killed a week or two before the 2012 election, it might have had an effect.

However, if the economy stays on it's current trajectory, I don't think there are a lot of voters who are going to say, "Unemployment is 18%, gasoline is $5, food prices are skyrocketing, and housing prices are still collapsing. I was going to vote Republican, but since Obama bagged Osama, now I'm going to vote for him." It just won't happen.

Good article in general. One criticism, though:

the feather is deserved

No, the feather is not deserved.

I’m betting that there is going to be a massive Military draw down around the Election which will dominate the News cycle.

If the 10 point bounce put him into the 60s or 70s, it would be a bigger deal. As it is, he'll nudge over 50 with it. The euphoria will disappear quickly....and definitely over the summer when gas hits $5/gallon as the national average.

When people say they still don't have jobs, couldn't afford the commute even if they had one, and the dollar tanks, "Obama got Osama" won't amount to much.

One of the H-53 variants in service with the Navy (MH-53E Sea Dragon) and Marines (CH-53E Super Stallion) should be able to do all that pretty easily. As could a V-22 Osprey - which is flown by both the Marines (MV-22B) and USAF Special Operations (CV-22B).

I'd think that if one of those were used in this it would have been the USAF's CV-22B which is optimized for missions like this. I don't think the Navy/Marine H-53s, or the Marine's MV-22 have all the SpecOps bells/whistles (advanced navigation, terrain-following, etc) such as what the now-retired MH-53J/M Pave Lows had.

I’m glad you liked the post and one of its purposes was to help motivate some FReepers who have been moping around the last 36 hours.

But, really-—we have 18 MONTHS until the election! We are all being way too premature.

There could even be a couple surprise candidates entering the fray. On either side.

Patience, please. That goes for me too.

Hard to believe that Special Forces would allow itself to become involved in such a scam.

Other than that, it really does stink out loud.

Give it time, the truth will out.
