WASHINGTON (AFP) – Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is dead, and President Barack Obama will announce his death, nearly 10 years after the September 11 attacks in a televised address, a senior US official told AFP.
The official said on condition of anonymity that Bin Laden was dead, but did not provide details of how his death occurred.
Obama was imminently to address Americans in a highly unusual Sunday night appearance on television.

The Donald Trump effect, no doubt. Obama is getting off his butt and acting presidential in reaction to Trump's attacks... Interesting.
1. Osama bin Laden's body is found by U.S. military personnel. For the sake of this discussion, it really doesn't matter when this took place -- or even if there was any military involvement in his death. For all we know, this could have happened months ago.
2. The White House is sitting on this news for days, weeks or even months. They plan to release it when it will carry the most weight from a political standpoint. Obama records a formal "live announcement" of Osama bin Laden's death.
3. Something happens in the last day or so that causes this to leak into the public domain.
4. The White House scrambles to figure out where Barry Soetoro is tonight, and to get him back to the White House because they can't air his "live" address while he is still out in a place where he can be seen (this explains the lengthy delay in having him do the "live" address tonight).
5. The White House airs Obama's "live" address -- not realizing that it was pre-recorded and Obama actually says Osama bin Laden was killed "today" even though every media story indicates that the U.S. spent a week doing DNA tests on his remains.
Sound like a plausible scenario?

Fox, says now, was authorized on April 29, with final approval today by Obama.

Good point, but I’m more inclined to believe a foreign news source than anything I read or hear in the U.S.
