Just watched CBS 60 Minutes' interview with Lara Logan and what happened in February in Cairo. I must say, I'm still confused: just what did happen? After watching Scott Pelley's interview with Logan, I still don't know if she was raped. It's more than an academic question; in every state in the U.S., there's big difference between sexual molestation and rape. I honestly don't know what happened to Logan that night, other than that a mob tore her clothes off and beat her. To be explicit, CBS didn't ask (or chose not to broadcast) whether a penis entered Logan's vagina - and that's the definition of rape used by every state in the U.S. and most countries around the world.
Another thing that was deeply dissatisfying about the 60 minutes interview: there was no context for why this attack occurred. I find this rather bizarre, to say the least.
Any fellow FReepers have similar thoughts? Different?
I read recently where that is one of the prime reasons there is so much inbreeding in many muslim countries, because the remotest male a female can spend time with sans chaperone is a first cousin, ergo, much more sexual activity in that arena.
They view any woman hanging around with anyone further out than that as a loose woman.
Rape is defined legally as the “commission of unlawful sexual intercourse or unlawful sexual intrusion.” Intrusion or penetration can be made by things other than a penis, apparently in this case hands or whatever these savages may have had in them.
Rape is anal ,oral, or vaginal penetration by any object.

They were just starting to tell her to get the hell out of there when the attack happened.
NO cheers, unfortunately. Wonder where all the libs incensed over the 'No means Yes, Yes means anal' chanters from the fraternity at Yale University hid to keep from speaking out about *this* story: which is the image they try to present as the 'reality' of college life in the U.S.
The whole situation was sick IMO. Let her say want she wants, when she wants. Leave her as alone as she wants.
This crossed my mind as well. I am always astounded at the gals that go to Haiti or Dominica in some volunteer capacity and then are surprised when they end up gang raped on a roof. Do they not know the reality of these places?
Any unmarried woman turning up pregnant would find hell on earth. As we have seen here in the U.S., Canada and Europe, they are quite enthusiastic about their "Honor Killings."
Wealthy and powerful men marry as they can afford. Poor men take what they can get. They tend to marry first cousins. Often, two closely related men will agree to "trade" sisters or daughters to marry.
Contrary to what the liberals tell you, it is not a "beautiful and sophisticated" culture.
And please, by all means share this admonishment with all those others and their rather less-than-flattering comments concerning this story. I was aware of this incident from previous posts here and when the story first broke . To be fair that is. Thank you. I’ve been accused here of the ‘’blame the victim/she asked for it’’ thing. So let me just share this. Once, a long time ago, some twenty years, I had the rare privilege of the friendship, the trust and eventually the love of a beautiful woman who had been horribly scared in her childhood, first emotionally and physically by two violently alcoholic parents and sexually by the boyfriend of her older sister. And all of this before she was thirteen. What it did to her sense of herself as a person and worthy of honest affection was heartbreaking. For thirty-seven years she closed herself off to love and to affection, even to simple touch. Until I met her. But our lives went different ways. Still I feel honored for her sake to know that at least she knew one man who didn’t want to take anything from her but honestly cared about her and loved her. My point to all this I’ve never been a man to blame a woman for inviting the vicious and soul-destroying crime of rape. (I remember her still. Long straight black hair and pale blue eyes.)
I didn’t say it was her fault. No woman invites rape. I’m trying to point out this woman should have been more aware of the situation she placing herself in and more over aware of Arab male culture. This isn’t as if she had been in a bar doing nothing and wanting no more than to have a drink or walking to her car getting off a commuter bus. Thanks to Arab Muslim culture all Western women are seen as being prostitutes. Seems to me like they’re saying it was her fault.
Rape is forcible penetration. She was forcibly penetrated, but not with penises.
I’m with you - treating a woman like a punching bag or an object to be defiled by a group of men, taking pictures of humiliating her - all vile and not to be condoned on any level.
Debbie Schlussel has a very interesting take on it...
