Detroit needs residents. Immigrants want to live in America.
Michael Bloomberg says he's got a simple solution for both needs -- send all new immigrants to Detroit.
In a novel approach to immigration reform, the New York City mayor said Sunday that if he could have his way, he'd use the immigrant workforce to jump-start the Motor City's economy by requiring Detroit residency.

For some it might even be a step down.....
MGD always says he's "going to have a talk with his ancestors when he gets upstairs" for settling in Wisconsin. "Ach! It's yust like the olt country!" He imagines them exclaiming, to which he replies - "Yeah, the old country sucked - that's why you left!!!!"
Now there’s a brilliant idea! Send unemployed people into an area with no jobs and that will boost the economy!
I guess all the welfare checks will bring in a good amount of money.
I say send them to Bloomberg’s neighborhood.
I picked up some unexpected work yesterday while taking pre prom pics of my nieces and their dates.
One of the dates fathers oversees the 9 little league teams in the area he lives. He said they haven’t taken team photos for a few years due to the cost but I’m willing to do it for a fraction as long as he pays for the printing himself. I gave him a price of $100 per team. That’s 1 group photo and individual photos of each kid.
Send them all to Bloombergs estate on Long Island
Listen Mikey, outside of New York City you're just an asshole (inside the City he's also mayor).
Anyway, why did he pick Detroit? Has Detroit responded?
Only if we can redraw the American-Canadian border to give Detroit to Canada. And then build a border fence so they can’t come back.
Uh, Mike lives all of 1/2 mile from me...no thanks.
Arm yourself; arm your wife.
Maybe only a dozen.
Instead let’s suspend immigration and move NYC’s riff raff, including Bloomin Idiot to Detroit
Two birds, one stone.
People from other countries aren’t stupid - they’d quit coming here. Why would anyone want to live in Detroit?
And what jobs is he proposing be forced to moved to Detroit to employee them; and what Detroit property owners would he demand they give up their vacant property to jobless immigrants, expecting nothing in return; and what taxpayers in Michigan, or the U.S., is would he demand pay for the missing local property taxes to educate the children of the jobless immigrants; and we could go on.
Mr. Bloomberg may have once run a business (built on near-monopoly data feeds - in the beginning - from the stock exchanges) but on how to get a rebirth in Detroit going, he knows nothing.
The first “new additions” that Detroit would need would be new businesses. New businesses would provide the economic base for greater growth in new residents - not the other way around.
The atmosphere for new businesses in Detroit can be provided by changes in the tax and regulation climate in Michigan and in the city of Detroit itself.
In other words “if you build it” - the right governmental environment, “they will come” - business and industry, and people, immigrant and otherwise will follow.
Making all immigrants live Detroit, even ILLEGAL immigrants, would be an unconstitutional penalty worse than death!
Very close to my first thought as well, which was "we can't take on any more here, and they're still pouring in..."

...illegals were just ‘collecting the unemployment benefits that Americans are unwilling to collect’.
Hehe... Ciudad Detroit
Detroit — and Michigan in general — needs jobs, not immigrants. Rich Mike Bloomberg can and should build housing for all the new immigrants, and find them work (and ESL classes) right in NYC.
Oh, and he should shut up.
