Birthers, buffoonery and a sad discourse
The Washington Post ^ | April 29 | Kathleen Parker

Posted on 05/01/2011 9:45:04 AM PDT by Tex-Con-Man

If you really, really dislike Barack Obama, his long-form birth certificate, finally proffered in exasperation, is quite simply a counterfeit.

If you are a fan of the president — or even a respectful critic — you are relieved finally to have rid the country of the plague of “birtherism,” the rabid belief that Obama wasn’t born in this country and isn’t constitutionally qualified to be president.

To whichever group one claims membership, one can’t help wondering when exactly we lost our minds.

...

Yes, obviously. Trump resurrected the birther cause and breathed new life into it. But it wasn’t only to end the debate that Obama sent for his certificate. According to the vineyard, it was also to prevent other Republican candidates from looking sane by comparison to Trump.

...

In a saner time, Trump would be dismissed as the carnival barker Obama implied he is. People would have recognized Trump as a self-aggrandizing megalomaniac and put a period at the end of the sentence. Not remotely would his name be followed with this phrase: “who is leading other Republican candidates in polls.”

...

Alas, there is no reasoning with the unreasonable, too many of whom these days seem to self-identify as Republicans or conservatives. This is as Democrats would have it, needless to say, but no one is served by our national descent into silliness. Sadly missing on the Republican side is the leveling voice of the grown-up who will say not only that he takes Obama’s word (and the clear evidence), but that the Republican Party won’t tolerate further discussion. Case closed.

That poll is probably what pushed obama to “plug the damn hole”. So someone grabbed the 6/28/2008 work-in-process birth certificate and put it online for the world to see.

Saul Alinsky was right and would be laughing his ass off right now if could see how making fun of the birthers could shut up all conservatives so easily. The ussue for me was not that he was born in Hawaii it was because his father was not. my understanding was that because his father was not a US Citizen Zero was no qualified to hold office. Is he or not no one has said or noone knows. Obama has lied everytime he has opened his mouth and peole like this dumbass parker is upset because we never believed him about his BC when he refused to show it. There is nothing wrong with the birthers it is the rest of you.

I just spent a couple of days listening to a multitude of conservatives at The Heritage Foundation event in Dallas.

In 2 days of speeches and panels, John Fund made one passing birtherism joke. Other than that, the topics were about serious legislative and political issues.

Dedicated, lifelong conservatives involved in actively promoting traditional conservatism are not espousing birtherism. Period.

Yup, which was my point from the beginning. Most prominent conservative politicians, analysts and intellectuals never bought into the birther nonsense and always sought to distance themselves from it.

"Exactly. The BC is getting no traction."

Which anti Obama issue is getting traction in the MSM outlets?

"I am a professional graphic designer who has been in the field for over 20 years and over the weekend I took a good long look at that BC. It is a forgery. Not only a forgery, but a badly done forgery."

I'm in the biz too. When I started we set type by hand. We used process cameras, contact tables, rubylith and film negatives to separate color. Now I can do it all on my MacBook Pro and CS4.

I agree the document is suspicious. More suspicious is the fact that such a poorly executed example is offered, when all the tools to create a flawless counterfeit were at hand.

Had the WH simply released the same version they assumedly provided to the AP, there would be no discussion. We are being played.
