Colt revolver becomes Arizona's official gun

Jan Brewer, the Arizona governor, on Thursday signed a bill into law that makes the Colt Single Action Army Revolver the state’s firearm, making Arizona only the second in the nation to have such a designation.

The Colt revolver, made popular in the 1800s, was a common weapon carried by the likes of Bat Masterson, Buffalo Bill Cody and Wild Bill Hickok, according to “The Book of Colt Firearms”, by R. L. Wilson.

Production first ran from 1872 through 1941 and then again from 1955.

Opponents said the designation was ill-timed, coming as the state deals with the fallout from a massive budget crisis and only months after a mass shooting in Tucson.

I am proud to say that I had a small part in promoting the Colt SAA as the official State Gun of Arizona!

Note the insane comment by the leftist identity politician. The "gun" did not kill some of his ancestors, some people did. A lot more of his ancestors (assuming some of his ancestors are actually Navajo) were killed by Apaches than by non-Apaches.

Great going.

I own one of these (1912) and it’s a beautiful little gun, and my favorite side arm. Still shoots dead on too.

The Colt's are nice...

But my personal "Arizona favorite" remains my Glock 45 auto...

I'm partial to the single action revolver. I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag that has given me many a night's peaceful slumber in the big bad wilderness.

It's a nice gun, but people only carry them for things like the Rodeo parade in Tucson.

The reality in Arizona now is that you need a real semi-automatic pistol with some stopping power because the desert is now a dangerous place, and not just because of rampaging javelina.

When I was a kid we never worried about narcos and people smugglers. We hunted in the Sonoran desert for varmints and snakes. Usual kid stuff - no one cared.

Not now. You need to be aware that there are guys out there with Kalashnikovs who see no downside to using them. For real.

Arizona needs a second state gun...I nominate the Dillon Aero M-134.

And as this video was filmed in Arizona, it needs to be preview of the fate of armed invader now attempting to dominate this state and eventually our nation.

Doesn’t Navajo mean “Head Bash-er” or something smilier?

I have several variants by Uberti. I am especially proud of my 1873 Buntline Special with 10” barrel and silver inlay on the grip. I also have a tick for guns with lanyard rings. The Uberti Model 3 Russian I have is really cool - well made....all 45LC (except for an 1890 policeman’s special in .357 magnum - again, with a lanyard ring)

Pink water pistol (and you still need the nanny state's permission to buy one)?

Thats interesting about lanyard rings. Was that more of a european thing or just earlier firearms in general?

I kinda looked at this at symbolism and pointless posturing. Obviously you don't see it that way, and I respect your opinion. If you'd share your reasons I might come around to your point of view.

Nope, US Calvary sidearms had them - anywhere you’d expect that you’d want to hold on to it during action.

I have a couple of 1917 45 ACP revolvers with them (holdover from the 1890s, likely a calvary use once) and I have three Victory Model 38s with them. I don’t know why I like them, it just sets them apart I guess. I mostly collect and go for the odd stuff like the Model 3 Russian. It’s a Schoffeld variant (breaks open on the backstrap and pops out all 6 casings) but also has the lanyard ring and a neat trigger guard recurved spur (for the middle finger for control I presume).

It’s a steel ring (circle or oblong shaped) affixed to the butt of the grip. It’s usually on a swivel....you attach a lanyard, a long piece of woven thread, leather, etc. that has a clasp and tie it off on your belt or other place on your body.....basically meant to keep you from not being able to get your gun back if it gets knocked out of your hand or something like that.

I kinda looked at this at symbolism and pointless posturing.

Symbolism is important in the war to restore the Constitution. The Progressives have won an enormous amount of ground by redefining terms and making what was considered common sense and totally acceptable moraly questionable by repeating, over and over, what were once considered obvious falsehoods.

A state having a state gun implicitly says that guns are good and that a State should be proud of its heritage under arms. Both of these messages directly undermine basic but false assumptions that the lies of the Progressives are founded on.
