Michele Bachmann spoke at the Americans for Prosperity Forum in New Hampshire (along with Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, Herman Cain and Rick Santorum). From her speech you get a good idea of what Bachmann's campaign would be should she choose to run.
- 25% cut in federal discretionary spending
- Cancel outstanding stiumulus; return repaid TARP funds to US Treasury
- Reinstate 1994 welfare reform act with 5 year lifetime cap
- A balanced budget with no tax increases and no spending increases outside of population growth + inflation
- Federal government would send letter to every state announcing it will not bail out any underfunded public employee union pension or healthcare plan
- Would do the same for private business (union and non-union); no more federal bailouts
- No more federal ownership of private business - put Fannie and Freddie on the auction block; end future federally backed mortgage securities
- Sell government share in AIG, Chrysler, GM, Bank of America and Citibank
- Legalize private student lending, end federal government involvement in student loan business
- Repeal Obamacare; allow Americans to purchase any healthcare policy they want from any state with no minimum mandates using tax free dollars and fully deductable on tax returns; tort reform
- Downsize EPA; no cap & trade; legalize all American energy production, all without federal subsidy
- Cut business tax rate to 9%
- No capital gains tax, no inheritance tax, no alternative minimum tax
- No marginal income tax rate would be higher than 20%
- Implement a national consumption or flat tax
- Pass a mother of all repeal bills to repeal the last 4 years of Obama/Pelosi/Reid

I like the platform except that it has both an income tax AND a consumption tax. No, no, NO! Adoption of a consumption tax MUST be tied to the elimination of the income tax, otherwise we’ll have both, and that’s worse than what we have now.

Personally I hope she gets in and despite what the conventional “wisdom” turds say I believe she can win.

The headline should say “(if she chooses to run).”
I agree with her, about many issues, but I hope that she won’t run, since she’d probably lose. Only person was elected president while he was a congressman, James Garfield, in 1880. I hope that she’ll run for the U.S. Senate, in 2012. She would probably win and be re-elected, in 2018. If that happens, she could be elected president, in 2020 or ‘24.

I think the field will narrow pretty quick. It’s getting to be all about “why spend the money”.

Manufactured consent, its not just for 1920s progressives anymore.

I do like MB a lot, but I find myself wondering who would be interested in buying Fannie and Freddie if they own all the “toxic assets”? (I guess maybe we could sell them to China if we agreed to resurrect the concept of debtors’ prisons.)

Wow, great platform! Now if we could just sweet talk em' into running together:
I'm serious. Which two possible runners have more conservative principles, values, goals and are true Americans? Read the wishy-washy moderate Rinoesque platforms of the others? Sarah and Michele are the Real Deal! Conservatives Win Elections!

I didn’t see any thing about cutting off paying for all those out of wed lock babies by 13 year old’s who were ordered by their moms to get preggers so they can get more welfare money. Or the welfare queens who keep having a kid a year to get more money.
And I don’t like her idea of rolling our Veterans health care into Medicare. Medicare is rationed health care, and our Veterans don’t deserve that.

This list will not comply with the GOP rules of engagement. Hey RNC, the GOP is going to be 68' all over again if you foist a rino on us. Two million Tea Partiers are going to be at the gates demanding a conservative. Capisce?

Sure is radical in comparison to what other potential candidates are talking about. But I think if you presented it to most Americans they would view it as common sense.

Well in her speech she talked about reform and then said we could go even farther and have a consumption or flat tax. I'm going to assume if she's talking about a flat or fair tax it would be to replace the current income tax.

How do you know she's not doing that already and being ignored by the leadership? There was a blog post on NRO a week or two ago that mentioned a contensious GOP meeting and the main bone of contention was Bachmann. The one guy that stood up to defend her was Steve King. Also don't forget she put herself out there for a leadership position and she was snubbed in favor of Jeb Henserling. The GOP leadership wants nothing to do with her.

As much as I would support her, her chance of winning the nomination is slim. But at least it raises her profile. And maybe this is to position herself for taking on Amy Klobuchar. God knows she needs to be defeated.

No, I’m certainly not saying it’s going to be easy. But she was the obvious person to lead the new conservative freshmen in congress, and I think she needs to concentrate on that. Someone certainly needs to do it, or maybe a few people need to get together and do it.

HOW do we get the GOP to pay attention to these other candidates (Palin, Bachman, Cain, West, etc.), rather than to the regular RINOs (Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty, etc.)? How do we make it known who WE want for the nomination??
