PDS Tornado watch just issued for Northern Mississippi:
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/watch/ww0232.html
I think we’re going to see that death toll rise. Unfortuantely.
It’s already risin to 193. You’re right - as they start uncovering and clearing the wreckage, they’ll be finding more dead. Sadly.
I feel fortunate - lost a little flashing, a small tree, and several branches (plus a shutter broke loose), but there were tornados south of me. I’m only about 20 miles or so from Ringgold, GA and Apison, TN where extensive damage occurred. Both have deaths.
Alabama EMA now reporting 145 deaths in Alabama, and said number is expected to rise.
Tuscaloosa now reporting 32 deaths, and reports are the number will be much larger than that once they finish digging out.
We got extremely lucky here in Montgomery. All the big stuff passed north of us. We had a lot of wind, a good light show and actually very little rain.
About half of the people here at work are out though, as the areas just north of the city where a lot of people live (Dadeville, Eclectic, Lake Martin) got hammered.
"Girl, sucked out of bed by tornado, survives"

Father is a Sheriff's Sargent and he survived. His house and patrol car were destroyed.
Both escaped with minor injuries...
"Atlanta 'dodged a bullet'"
http://www.ajc.com/news/atlanta/georgia-storms-atlanta-dodged-928295.html
A lot of good Christians/Catholics in Atlanta. Someone must have been watching out for them...
The Atlanta area is a very large geographical area -- so for it be spared is considered unusual -- considering how smaller towns got hammered...
We were spared in Forsyth County. A little thunder, lightening and some rain, lots of wind, but nothing dire. Last night I would look at the radar and our area was surrounded by rain, but a big empty hole over us.
Other places in North GA, not so lucky of course, prayers up for all.
To sum it up, the cells passed us over in Colonial Heights with wind and rain and a little hail.
There were 14 dead in Sullivan County, 3 in Greene County and I think 2 in Washington county. The cells passed us over and then caused damage around Bristol.
The track was right up I 81. The cells that passed us produced major damage from Bristol north to just beyond Abington, right along the Interstate.
There was a cell with rotation shown on radar in nearby Gray. No tornado but severe wind that damaged several houses, the new Mcmansions there. No injuries however. Down trees and such.
Here's a couple of pictures I snagged yesterday afternoon (keep in mind that this damage pales compared to what the tornadoes have done):
As opposed to all the Godless heathens in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Cullman, Ringgold, etc?
Have been watching the reports most of the morning. Such devastation and it’s not over yet along the east coast now.
Here in Pa. we had high wind gusts this morning but I’ve seen worse thunderstorms....some rain. Sunny right now.
Terrible they have people without arms and legs....the force of these was way beyond waht the average person would imagine.
Utter destruction for many areas...some areas without an infrastruction...it’s just all bad!
Those are your words.
Atlanta is a large population...
Maybe if there is a Divine Hand involved, it might be because the number of lives lost would have been greater...
And it might also be that the time of day and where the storms were at that time were the most important factors -- in other words -- late afternoon heating providing energy when the storms were located from 6 to 9pm.
Atlanta did not have storms until Midnight or later...
Yes, agreed.
6 in Greene county now. Thats the county right beside me.
Tornado Watches/Warnings in Northern Florida and Southeastern Georgia...
These storms are very close to the Gulf of Mexico as a source of heat...
Hopefully, nothing will happen...
UPDATE:
At least 36 killed in Ringgold. 231 Confirmed dead so far.
1,000-2,000 Injured just in Alabama.
Sadly, more news to come.
It just keeps on growing....I was just looking at Rainsville,Al. Population 5000. Reported 35 dead, 25 of which were in one parking lot alone.
The problem for some seems to be that power was down with prior storms so these people got blindsided and did not know how close or severe this tornado was. They were hit with multiple tornado’s about an hour and half aprt from each other.
There roads are still impassible, main power station out they can’t get fuel out of the ground so police cars etc, running out of fuel. However Fuel trucks are on their way there. Still in search and rescue mode as many are in Alabama.
BTW Winds from some of these Tornado’s clocked at 268 miles an hour!
Still have people trapped...
Reed Timmer’s Discovery Channel Storm Chaser crew got some incredible video yesterday.
It includes the birth of the Tuscaloosa/Birmingham/Rome tornado
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhKjv9GuARQ&feature=youtu.be
Going to that now....
Great video of these guys chasing that tornado...
Now I’m going to ask a question.
With these violent and powerful tornado’s sucking up houses etc. Is it possible the suck the air out of peoples lungs. With all the dbrie that it was ripping how is anyone to konow there aren’t people parts or people spinning in that?
I ask this because of people who returned to see if family hungered down were safe...only to find the home and the people completely gone...so if these things suck up houses then can a person survive if they get lifted up into these tornado’s???????? or does the verocity of the spin just destroy them????
