I'm sort of late to the birther experience, but it seems to me the thing that seems odd is that Obama's mother is listed as being 18 years old.

I haven't read any of his books, nor do I have any interest in doing so, but I think there may be some deception regarding the narrative about his mother and father- not to mention the idea that she was probably pregnant at 17. That is my guess as to what he was hiding all these years- something that embarrassed his mother, and he had lied about to supposedly protect her.

Could it be that she was the one "punished with a baby" at such a young age?

Simply not true. The fact that she was pregnant before marriage was always well known as was her birthdate. Heck, Obama even boasted about it at times. Go to Wikipedia (yes even in the entires before this morning). Her marriage date was ALWAYS listed as well under nine months before Obama's birth.
