There MUST be a nefarious political motive explaining why 0bama wants this.

What is it?

Likely.. this.

How is it possible that the same 50 or so people seem to always show up?

The elites are just that elites. Not too many of them.

It’s a little hard to believe, though it’s been rumored for wks. On the other hand, Gates has been such a screw-up, I don’t know if Panetta could be much worse.

Obama views Petraeus as a potential rival. Obama’s fragile ego can’t deal with a real hero.

Why is it we get the same haters here everytime?

Not hate, I question his judgment. Why do you label those who disagree with you haters?

I think there are fine characteristics of the man and he did well when attacked by the Libs in congress. But poor judgment is poor judgment. And poor judgment in wars gets our guys killed.

No, but he didn’t wear it himself. Big balls

Hardly, foolish and irresponsible IMO. If I am wrong about him dictating removal of the flack jackets by the troops, I stand corrected. But I need to look it up.

Any other FReepers remember this flack jacket controversy?

I agree....Since Obama became President, he has chosen McChrystal and Petraeus to head up Afghanistan. When Bush’s Generals were running the show we had a total of 630 casualties in 8 YEARS!!! Obama’s Generals 923 in 2.5 yrs!

I get the casualty notices delivered to me daily! The press is NOT reporting the deaths because IF they did, it would be EVERY DAY!!!!

The Academies are just as liberal as any other Ivy League school. Especially the ones attending now.

How can you slur one of America’s fighting men with the same insult that the libbies used against him in Iraq?

I can’t believe this story is not getting more attention. Why is Gates out? Why are they replacing him with Leon Panetta of all incompetent people? Oh, he had a clueless CIA so maybe he’ll be equally clueless with the DOD? Why put a US Army General in charge of a spy agency?

This reminds me of a story I read here yesterday or the day before. I did not recognize the news source and cannot even remember the name, but it mentioned that the Saudis were putting a halt to a big purchase of US military equipment and that they informed Gates of this the other day. Reportedly, the Saudis are extremely unhappy with the US’ lack of interest in the Iranian threat in the ME. I only saw the one story about this, and I looked to see if Drudge had anything about it but found nothing. By last night, I thought that the story must be untrue. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn’t.
