Ron Paul Was Tempted To Walk Away From Presidential Race, But . . .
The New York Sun ^ | April 26, 2011 | David Pietrusza

NEW YORK — Congressman Ron Paul, en route to Iowa to announce the creation of the presidential campaign exploratory committee, told an editorial breakfast of The New York Sun that “it’s tempting to just walk away” from the presidential race “but if what we’re predicting happens, we’re going to have to step up.”

He was referring to the collapse of the dollar and the threat of wider inflation and the damage they are doing to ordinary Americans, who are suddenly facing soaring gasoline prices and grocery bills and an erosion of their savings and the value of their homes.

The Congressman said he was not concerned about the talk about how a vote against raising the debt ceiling would lead to a default, saying America is in “a slow motion default now.” He was referring to the collapse in the value of the dollar to below a 1,500th of an ounce of gold. The debt ceiling vote will come up in Congress shortly.

Dr. Paul, a physician by profession, voiced during the breakfast repeated frustration with the strictures of Congress, where he has for years found himself in what some have called “a party of one” because of his long commitment to sound money and opposition to even those government subsidies and interventions in the market that other Republicans are prepared to vote for.

Yeah Yeah.. and Trump is liberal, Palin is a frustrated housewife, Bachmann is goofy, Coulter is a B!tch, BUT... Myth Romney is a stand up guy.. John McLame was NOT the local snitch at the Hanoi Hilton.. at least not all the time..

I like them all... at least they are not democrats..
That shows some intelligence..

You do realize that the folks who supported Paul then are now existing Tea Party members, right?

So basically, you're making fun of the Tea Party movement.

The Tea Party transcends R-U-N Paul. Get back to me when you have a legitimate candidate, and not a tin-foil fruitcake.

Some people find mockery to be a substitute for debate when they have no answers.

The Tea Party transcends R-U-N Paul.

By and large Ron Paul is the godfather of the Tea Party as it stands today. Those thousands of people who organized for him would be back on the sidelines not paying attention to politics as they did before.

Get back to me when you have a legitimate candidate, and not a tin-foil fruitcake.

Hey, I don't support Paul now as a candidate, and neither does many Tea Party members. My point is that he deserves credit for getting people involved and introducing real issues into the arena.

Some people find mockery to be a substitute for debate when they have no answers.

But of course. They support establishment hack cronies who are responsible for the mess we're in now, and will denigrate people who dare challenge the status-quo.

Real issues? Such as, "The U.S. invited the attacks from Bin Laden"? Such as, "The U.S. was responsible for the 9/11/01 attacks"? Such as, "The U.S. knew about the attacks, and allowed them to happen"? Such as, "The U.S. should isolate itself from the rest of the world"?

Perhaps, with the exception of the first and last items, R-U-N Paul didn't make those exact statements. However, he also did not clarify his position on these issues as perpetuated by his followers and supporters. Some may wish to give him credit for the rise of the "Tea Party" (I don't), but the current Tea Party is not what was in play when he ran for President. Most of his followers were tin-foil fruitcakes and truthers.

I like how you used quotation marks, and then immediately said he didn’t actually say them.

Seriously, has the board become DU for neo-Cons?

R-U-N Paul perpetuated those claims as made by his supporters. He is as guilty as those who supported him.

Real issues?

Dr. Paul was the first presidential candidate to talk about inflation, the weak dollar, big government spending, and never-ending wars. Were was the other candidates?

Such as, "The U.S. invited the attacks from Bin Laden"? Such as, "The U.S. was responsible for the 9/11/01 attacks"?

He never said those things, taking his words out of context shows how weak your argument is.

Such as, "The U.S. knew about the attacks, and allowed them to happen"? Such as, "The U.S. should isolate itself from the rest of the world"?

More Bulls--t.

Perhaps, with the exception of the first and last items, R-U-N Paul didn't make those exact statements.

Because he DIDN'T.

Some may wish to give him credit for the rise of the "Tea Party" (I don't), but the current Tea Party is not what was in play when he ran for President. Most of his followers were tin-foil fruitcakes and truthers

The fruitcakes, nuts, and troofers tried to exploit his campaign to make him look bad, because Paul's ideas resonated with many people outside Washington. You see, like Governor Palin, Paul was loathed by the GOP establishment and the power-brokers in the beltway.

Do some YouTubing of some of Paul's rallies. There were many ordinary people who organized (on their own time and money) for Paul, people who could easily be your next door neighbor. And yes, those people then are the Tea Party now.
