What is it with all the cheesy imitations of French names?

I was never able to figure that one out...

The explanation I read once, is that poor black females know that there is little hope for their children. They began giving them frenchie sounding names, hoping that it will make them special in some way.

How about the mother in Louisiana that went viral on the school board a month or so ago because no one at the school would pronounce her daughter's name correctly?

The girl's name is Le-A. It is pronounced Ledasha.
