Analysis: Obama went too far in critique

President Barack Obama misrepresented the House Republicans' budget plan at times and exaggerated its impact on U.S. residents during an April 13 speech on deficit reduction.

He said the GOP plan would replace Medicare with "a voucher program that leaves seniors at the mercy of the insurance industry." That's an exaggeration.

He said "poor children," "children with autism" and "kids with disabilities" would be left "to fend for themselves." That, too, is an exaggeration.

He repeated a deceptive talking point that the new health care law will reduce the deficit by $1 trillion.

He falsely claimed that making the Bush tax cuts permanent would give away "$1 trillion worth of tax cuts for every millionaire and billionaire."

I've had his talking points repeated to me, so clearly some people have bought into his bs.

Great post! Thank you.

I love the Ryan plan, btw. And I’d be one of the older ones subjected to it.

It gives a good incentive for people my age to take better care of themselves.....NOW.

Medicare does not entertain “appeals” of denied care. When the gov’t says NO, the answer is no. By law, private insurance companies must allow for appeals of denied care, often by independent arbitrators.

Private insurance will give a patient a better choice of provider. Providers are dropping Medicare and Medicaid patients like they are radioactive, because of the low reimbursement rates.

Depending on your condition, it might be cheaper to order drugs from Canada, rather than even take the Medicare drug plan. I’ve used this company and they are great: http://www.northwestpharmacy.com/ Just make sure you’re organized and don’t wait until you have 3 pills left. It will take a couple weeks to reach you, but the medications are often 80-90% cheaper.

Private insurance companies are aggressive about dealing with fraud & waste because they answer to shareholders. Unlike gov’t, which answers to nobody. We’ll get more actual care for the buck, I imagine.

There’s other reasons I like this plan, but I don’t have the list right in front of me. But I actually read the entire thing. http://budget.house.gov/UploadedFiles/PathToProsperityFY2012.pdf

Finally, I didn’t clip coupons, and squirrel away change in jars for years to make ends meet so I could leave my son with MASSIVE gov’t debt incurred on my behalf. That’s not gonna work for me.

The Ryan plan would ADD $5 TRILLION Dollars to the national debt.

They are STILL not listening to We the people.

Initially, it will. But over time, the debt that is now incurred by taxpayers for Medicare and simply put on the national credit card will be borne by insurance companies.

The number of dollars spent under the existing scenario looks a little strange compared to other budget numbers:

“UNSUSTAINABLE”

That’s a funny looking number, regardless of the kind of new math they taught at your school.

Sure looks to me like the kinds of choices we have are looking at are between something resembling the Ryan plan and nothing at all. The notion that it’s the Ryan plan vs. existing Medicare is false. Medicare “as we know it” is going to consume itself, no matter what we do. The math does not lie.

And before you say nothing at all is just dandy, I’d like to remind you that there are zillions of solid conservatives, right here on FreeRepublic who will insist, that come hell or high water, that they intend to take full advantage of Medicare. Because they were compelled to pay into it for decades.

Such is the deviousness of the Democrat’s Medicare plan.

Btw, if it were up to me and I could be some kind of a dictator for a few days, these kinds of all-encompassing insurance third-party payor policies would be all but outlawed. Never, did we expect policies to cover every exam, test, drug, device, etc. I’m showing my age here, but I remember when this kind of insurance was referred to (by my parents) as “hospitalization insurance.” It operated much like auto & house insurance does, covering emergencies and expecting YOU to absorb the everyday expenses.

If I were Dictator for a day, I’d mandate HSA’s for every employee, starting at age 18. I’d allow the unused money to build up (earning interest in the meantime) right through retirement. HSA’s have, btw, a “catastrophic” component for emergencies, in case you’ve never had one.

You would see health care costs in this country go down by 30% almost immediately. I’ve been uninsured since Feb of 2009, when I was laid off. When I needed an annual exam, I was quoted a price of $ 130. After realizing that I was going to pay by check and they weren’t going to have to: jump through insurance hoops, wait 6 weeks for their money, and pay employees to process paperwork to mail out of state, my bill suddenly became $ 90. THAT is the cost of the health care bureaucracy in this country, right there.

Also, I had spent a couple of years trying to explain this radical (LOL) concept to my sweetie, who teaches at a Catholic school and is a widower, with 4 children. After going from a lavish gov’t school & into a private Catholic school, it was quite a step down in income, something many FReepers are familiar with. I finally convinced him this past school year to give their HSA a try, in place of traditional & expensive health insurance, reminding him he could always go back to their other plan. With much trepidation and hand holding, he did it. It prolly gave him an extra couple hundred dollars or so in his monthly paycheck, so that helped convince him to try it. After nearly a year, what does he think?

He absolutely LOVES it. So do his providers. He can’t believe what a smooth, easy system it is and he is saving a bucketload of money.

The old saying “if his mouth is moving, he is lying” never fit anyone better than Obama.

Obama also repeated a deceptive talking point about his health care law...

Am I dreaming? This article is from Annenberg-funded FactCheck.org? I went to FactCheck.org and there it was, the first article on the home page.

What's going on here?

Saul Alinsky directed his proteges to “HIDE” their true goals by any means necessary. Lying was an acceptable means to accomplish this. Obama TAUGHT this tactic to students at Chicago Law School.

Quite interesting, when you consider Obama was a founding member, chairman, and president of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which was also funded by the Annenberg Foundation.

Are they turning on Dear Leader?

The American taxpayer cannot support the tax and spend habits of DC. They are worse than drunk sailors on their first shore leave after being at sea for years.
