DENVER, Colo. -- The man police said planted a pipe bomb at a Littleton mall was released from prison one week before the incident. A nation-wide manhunt is underway for Earl Albert Moore, 65, who's accused of planting the explosives Wednesday, the anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings.

Moore is considered armed and dangerous. The FBI confirmed that he had been serving time in a Georgia prison for a 2005 armed robbery in West Virginia. Moore had been sentenced to 18 years, but was released early on April 13.

Authorities said just seven days later, he planted a pipe bomb at the Southwest Plaza Mall. Now, Moore is on the run.

"We followed all the local leads that we've been able to come up with, all the addresses and locations where he might be located," said Dave Joly, spokesperson for the Denver FBI office. "Those haven't been successful."

The search has gone national, with the Denver FBI sending photos of Moore to all 56 U.S. FBI offices.

KRDO Newschannel13 found out that Moore has a criminal history in Colorado spanning two decades. He's been arrested for drugs and larceny, and has a 2004 felony conviction for possession of burglary tools.

"We consider Moore armed and dangerous," said Joly. "He has an extensive criminal history, and we're asking for the public's help to view the photos to see if they've viewed him somewhere."

The FBI said Moore is about 6 feet or 6 feet 2 inches tall. They said he's between 200 and 250 lbs. with blue eyes, a bald head and a gray mustache. Moore has three tattoos on his arms; a Viking, a rose and a heart with a dagger through it.

What galls me is that the press keeps quoting the anniversary of the Columbine shooting.....

The date was also Hitler’s birthday and more relevant to a neo-nazi than the Columbine shooting.

I’m guessing he is the later.....

Thank goodness for early release for good behavior, or this guy would still be behind bars.

NO...there is no early parole for good behavior in the federal system....here is the straight poop from a different article

Federal Bureau of Prisons records show that Moore was released from prison April 13.

Moore served time in a Georgia federal prison, Joly said. Federal court records show that Moore pleaded guilty in May 2005 to robbing a bank in Crab Orchard, W.Va., of $2,546.

A judge sentenced Moore to between 15 and 19 years in prison, but a federal appeals court in 2006 ruled his stiff sentence was “unreasonable” and Moore's sentence was reduced to seven years.

so WTF was the reason that a federal appeals court decided that this violent criminal should be free after 7 years...perhaps the judge who decided this should be brought to task for his stupidity....

Thanks for the correction. I didn’t know there was no early release for the Feds. I hope to maintain a certain level of ignorance on the subject too.

“The FBI said Moore is about 6 feet or 6 feet 2 inches tall...”

He just got out of prison and they don’t even know how tall he is?

“Earl Albert Moore Pleads Guilty to Using a Destructive Device During a Crime of Violence”

U.S. Attorney’s Office
December 30, 2011

District of Colorado

DENVER—Earl Albert Moore, age 65, pled guilty today to use of a destructive device during and in relation to a crime of violence for leaving a destructive device at the Southwest Plaza Mall on April 20, 2011. The guilty plea was tendered before U.S. District Court Judge John L. Kane. Moore was originally charged by criminal complaint on April 24, 2011. He was then indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver on May 5, 2011. Judge Kane is scheduled to sentence Moore on March 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Moore faces a mandatory minimum 30-year prison sentence.

According to court records, on April 20, 2011, a subject entered Southwest Plaza Mall, using an employee-only entrance. He then allegedly placed a destructive device inside an employee corridor at the mall. He then lit the device. Moore then exited the facility. As he was departing a fire ignited, but the device did not detonate. A security officer used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office immediately initiated an investigation. That investigation resulted in identifying Moore as the person responsible for the assembling and leaving the destructive device. A manhunt ensued. An alert Boulder resident recognized Moore at a local coffee house inside a grocery store. She called the Boulder Police Department, who quickly responded and arrested Moore.

This case was investigated by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, with substantial assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The U.S. Marshals Service also provided support. Moore is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Holloway.
