Spooked by the rising price of gasoline, the Obama administration has responded in its usual fashion: not by trying to solve the problem, but by looking for someone to demonize. We wrote last night about Obama's attack on "speculators;" he has seen political advantage in going after America's oil companies, too:

“Cant blame the speculators, they see that we are at the mercy of foreign oil in unstable countries and so they do what they do-speculate.”
Speculation in oil should be as illegal as trading in slaves.
Sometimes she is just not that purty.
I thought this was an unkind and unwarranted comment, but then I read your bio and it all made sense.
Hey, Stupid! You're the one who banned deep water exploration, killed offshore drilling, yet gave Brazil $7 billion of OUR money to develop their oil fields for future sale to China. Quit passing the buck, you incompetent idiot. The current gas prices sit right in your lap.
Want to find the reason for rising gas prices?
Don't need a commission, no studies, no "blue ribbon panels.
The answer is simple and cheap to discover....
Buy a mirror!
if all he has to do is issue an executive order how come W didnt do that in 8 yrs? where was he?
Obviously working undercover at Halliburton.
I know the meaning HR but this crap about being held to a speculators response would get whacked. The US and Britain created this and they should not be held hostage everytime dear leader says so.
Actually, Bush did issue an EO that restarted offshore drilling. I forgotten the date, but I remember that the spot price of oil did a nosedive on the news.
I think it's because he hasn't figured out yet how to give the oil industry to the "people" - his people, of course.
Maybe he's remembering what happened in South Africa when they took the farms from the whites and gave it to the "people" and how the farms died because the "people" didn't know how to farm.
Obama's people don't know how to run the domestic oil industry - yet.
I’m an unkind and unwarranted fellow. :)
Yes he did, and Rush talked about that on one of his shows this week. He said that Bush gave one speech about drilling and the price of oil dropped several weeks in a row.
It's not "our" money or the government's money - it belongs to the companies that earned it.
But to a Socialist like Obama: it's all the government's money. They just let you keep some. And what would happen if the oil company tax "breaks" were removed? The price of gas would go even higher, as companies passed the cost along to consumers, and also continued to move their business centers abroad, as they have been doing for some time.
Food prices are going up too. Who does he blame for that?
He’s clearly wrong — everyone *knows* that ethanol is the *only* subsidized fuel. /s
Thanks sickoflibs.
