Police were called Thursday night after Koran-burning pastor Terry Jones accidentally discharged his firearm in the parking lot of a television station, where he had just conducted an interview, MyFoxDetroit.com reported.
"Pastor Terry Jones just discharged his firearm in our parking lot," myFOXdetroit.com announced on its Facebook page.
"He claims it was fired by accident. The shot went into the floorboard of his car. No one was hurt. Police on scene."
Southfield Police confirmed the gun accidentally discharged. No charges were filed, and police gave the gun back to Jones before sending him on his way.

Idiot! I'm surprised he wasn't charged, and they gave him the gun back, but I don't know what the law is there.

Sigh. This guy isn’t helping our side.

But that was DETROIT, so the police probably get more gunshot calls than barking dog calls!

Unless the police could prove a criminal negligence, they had to return the firearm. Since no one was injured and no other property damaged other than the owner, no criminal action occurred. It is not against the law to be stupid or clumsy.
Michigan is unique in that it has always recognized other states, concealed carry licenses. An interesting way to let people know he is carrying also.

Thanks. I don’t travel to Michigan so am not aware of the reciprocity there. I just assumed Pastor ND has a Florida permit.

Florida's Conceal Carry Permit is reciprocal in like 31 states. Michigan must be one. And I can imagine why he carries one because there have been threats.
But, as a Pastor his first obligation is the feeding and care of his flock...not playing media attention whore and travelling all over the country on his why the Koran ought to be burned...most folks don't realize his congregation has fewer than 50 members and so does Westboro Baptist, but they make way more noise about stuff that has nothing to do with the Gospel of Jesus.

Yes, but was it worth the ringing in the ears? That must have been loud.

Not sure how prepared he is if he can’t control his weapon when there’s no threat present.

Over the years there have been alot of “guns going off in parking-lot” stories. I have a number of handguns, and still want to know why guns are fired off “by accident” at these locations soooo often.

I had my carry revolver discharge in my car once, scared the living Hell out of me.
The seat belt latch pushed into the holster enough that it activated the trigger and BOOM! Needless to say I got rid of that soft-side holster in lieu of a leather one. Never could find the bullet despite a large hole in the seat but none in the floorboard.

Years ago a buddy of mine entered into the law enforcement profession. He had his gun with him one night when he and a few friends were out on a Saturday night. My other friend was looking at it and pointed it and shot it into his dash. The gun discharged and the 4 of them sat there in disbelief and smoke looking at a .38 size bullet hole in his Trans Ams dash board....ears ringing as well. My friend to this day said he was 100% certain he had the safety on...

So let me get this straight: you buddy was a cop, and he took out his sidearm and let his friend play with his pistol in the car. To be blunt, you hang out with stupid people.

Let me clarify, idiot remark was regarding the negligent discharge. The second was surprise that he wasn’t charged with anything when they obviously are looking to stop him from his protest.
Thanks for the opportunity to restate after more coffee.
