Sadly, my own personal opinion is that America is finished. I see no way this debt can be reduced and ever paid back, ever! Even if you were to totally do away with social security it still would not do it. Plus, you would have millions who had it, and depended on it, without. No matter what you say, there are some honest people out there that rely simply on SS and that is because they were told the big lie 50 years ago and thought that would always be enough. It was not but really about 20-25 years ago that you really started to hear anything about SS being in big trouble. And not till the Internet did it really come full force that people really knew about it and had info and facts on it. The MSM certainly did not tell anyone about it. Everyone always believed that the SS taxes actually went into an account for SS. Few knew it went into the general fund and was spent before it could get cold in the account. The Big Lie from the dimocrats who ran Congress all those many years till the 1990s is what did it. Few actually knew. I know that back in the 1950-60s my parents said they had SS and that would take care of them in their old age. They believed the government and that it would be there. They did not know that it was a scam. My father worked for 45 years, died before he was SS eligible. My Mom got pennies in SS compared to some.

We are truly experiencing the last gasps of the great Ponzi Scheme known as the Welfare state. Its just like drug or alcohol addiction—initially the alcoholic or drug addict feels good after a couple drinks or fixes but by the end of their addiction, they are drinking or shooting up just to feel normal and avoid the pain of reality. Our Welfare State economy operates on the same principle. Obama gave us a giant fix of Stimulus and it didn’t do anything. The drug doesn’t work anymore yet Americans are so addicted to spending that even alleged conservatives scream bloody murder when you hint you are going to reduce their governmetn payments. It is why we are screwed.

NY Times/CBS News poll? Anytime two ultra liberal news agencies collaborate on anything their poll is suspect. The other one that comes up from time to time ABC/Washington Post poll ... another (so called reliabe) poll with a large dose of liberal bias thrown in for good measure.
