Have Republicans figured out Obama’s birth certificate is a political loser?

By Matthew Continetti

Continetti is guest-blogging for The Post.

I went on NPR’s “On Point” program this morning to talk about — what else — Donald Trump’s potential presidential candidacy. Before the interview I read Trump’s USA Today op-ed, “Obama, come clean.” The headline implies that Trump is continuing his quest to uncover President Obama’s actual birthplace and maybe recover the lost ark of the covenant while he’s at it. But what struck me was that Trump seems desperate to move beyond the “birther” issue:

There are many important and pressing issues that, should I elect to run, I will address — including China, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, the price of fuel, unfair trade, unsustainable debt, the creation of jobs and the rising price of food.

Most Americans would prefer to have a serious conversation about these critical issues, followed by a competent and fearless leader who can advance them. Sadly, the press has en masse chosen to glom onto but one of the myriad issues I have discussed and would tackle as president.

Allow me to repeat here what I have said on numerous occasions: I have spoken my piece on this issue, and many people have the same doubts as I have. My concern lies with people like the single mom who recently wrote to me that she now works a third job to pay for the gas to get to the other two.

Maybe Trump has realized that the way to unseat Obama isn’t through his birth certificate but through criticism of his budget, tax, health care, monetary and energy policies. That’s what Michele Bachmann seems to have figured out:

God I hope so. Besides if Trump is serious about running I'd love to know his postion on issues other than China and OPEC. I'd love to know his position on taxes, entitlement reform, the debt, defunding planned parenthood and ObamaCare, climate change, etc. That's what people will be voting on in 2012.

Republicans had better realize that any position against upholding the Constitution is a complete loser position for them among their base.

If Republicans do not start to question the meaning of the Constitutional term ‘natural born citizen’ and truely addressing this issue and not simply pretending that it is about the birth certificate then they are 100% doomed to failure.

I am getting real tired of supporting any republican at all who will not truely understand this issue and fight to uphold our natural rights to do so and demand that the issue of Constitutional eligibility for President be addressed.

This issue deals directly with the Constitution of the United States. Republicans either address it fully or they can go pound salt.

If a Presidential candidate did not meet constitutional requirements, or evaded showing proof, I would not vote for them. It is a predictor of what respect they would give the constitution while in office.

Republicans are afraid of being called racist if they pursue the question.

is it a coincidence that Obama’s numbers have fallen through the floor since this issue resurfaced? While other factors are driving that, too, it is clearly not a political loser, or his numbers would have reflected it.

Nope. 25% of Americans don’t believe Obama was born in the US. How many more think he was but his parents are listed incorrectly or there are other ‘irregularities’?

The birth certificate issue, along with being an immediate disqualification for Obama, points to a bigger issue: Americans know nothing about Obama’s first 30 years of life and the more they know they less they like Obama.

Gas prices through the roof, $14 trillion in debt with no benefits from the ‘stimulus’, stand down order on the US border and firearms shipped to drug cartels.

Pounding the ‘birth certificate issue’ gives average Americans a quick way to dislike Obama and that’s what they are seeking right now. “He’s not one of us and doesn’t have our best interest at heart.”

All of that summed up in this issue Republicans should keep pushing. It also shows the huge gap between reality and the MSM. Any quick internet searching shows the COLB is not a BC and the COLB has never been... well, you know by now all the issues.

The fact Trump keeps getting hammered on this shows it’s a severe Obama weakness. It’s really a good litmus test for any Republican candidate: Those NOT willing to stand up and address basic issues of Constitutional eligibility either have no balls or no courage.

Then every republican should also bring up the FACT that it is the democrat party who is the party of the KKK. Also the party of treason as well.

They should also bring up the long history of the racist Progressive movement as well.

No democrat or progressive has any leg to stand upon in calling a conservative or a republican a racist.

It is time for republicans and conservatives to stand up to the racist democrat party and racist progressive movement.

Just based upon what is currently KNOWN, even without a birth certificate we can PROVE he is not eligible.

Fact Number One
Congress is REQUIRED to ensure that the President elect is eligible for the office or they must name a replacement if the Vice President elect is also ineligible. (Twentieth Amendment, section three)

”3. If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President. If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly until a President or Vice President shall have qualified.”

Fact Number Two
The burden of proof is on the President elect to prove eligibility. The sequence of words from section three stating "if the President elect shall have failed" is describing an action by the "President elect" that he failed at.

Fact Number Three
The eligibility requirements in Article Two, section one clearly state that NO PERSON who fails to meet the eligibility requirements can serve as President. "No Person" leaves absolutely no wiggle room for anyone who might possibly fool his way into being sworn in through fraudulent representation or Congressional neglect in enforcing section three of the Twentieth amendment.

" No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”

Fact Number Four
Since Congress must act if the President elect fails to qualify, Congress must be made aware of whether they must act or not. This means that a legal "qualification" is fully known by Congress and that there is no mystery whether someone was eligible to serve or not. That is, if that "qualification" was made.

Fact Number Five
We have mystery about the eligibility of the person currently calling himself "President". Nothing but mystery.

Fact Number Six
Since we have "mystery" this means that a "qualification" was NOT made and thus the President elect has "failed to qualify" and cannot be serving legally as President.

Fact Number Seven
"We have no birth certificate" EQUALS "We have a usurper".

Fact Number Eight
It is the duty of Congress to immediately address this issue as per section three of the Twentieth amendment or they are breaking their oath of office from Article Six to "support this Constitution".

Add up the facts and we have usurpation along with a Congress unwilling to address it.

Yes, they are all concerned that the GOP doesn't shoot itself in the foot. It is very charitable of them to give such helpful advice.

Exactly. Obama is headed for the 30s in approval rating.

Trump questioning, and the left really having no answer because Obama can’t or won’t produce the long form birth certificate, has started Obama’s downfall. Corsi’s book is #1 on Amazon.

Trump could hold a press conference tomorrow with new information and EVERY network would be obligated to cover it. He’s getting a $100 million in free exposure.

If the issue was loser, the MSM wouldn't be encouraging Republicans to drop the issue and trying to demonize Trump.

Since when is advise from the Washington Post sound advice for Republicans?

Two scenarios to this:

1. Obama really was born in Kenya or anywhere else except the USA.

2. Obama was born in Hawaii, but was saying he was born in Kenya and an Indonesian Citizen to get a sweetheart deal on a US Foreign Student aid grant.

I could give a crap about his Birth Certificate, We need to see his college records, because if scenario 2 is true that shows that he willingly defrauded the US government, and also deprived another Indonesian citizen of the grant he got.

This is more important because the PC brain washed masses in this country will forgive the baby Obama for the sins of his promiscuous father and loose mother and whatever country they were in when he slid down his mother’s slip and slide. But will they forgive a “supposed champion of the foreigner” for taking away a college education from one of his “fellow” Indonesians?

Now don’t get me wrong I would like to see his Long Form, but I think his college records are 1000% more important because they could open a can of worms that shows deceptive behavior of an adult.

At the same time, these talking heads acting as though neither Trump, nor anyone else can walk and chew gum at the same time is pretty ridiculous.

The “birther” issue is neither a winner nor a loser politically — for the GOP. It’s just one of the many ways in which people are expressing their deep and abiding skepticism about the dangerous bumbler in the White House who, oh btw, just does not connect with the public as a cultural American.

And it is one of the ways in which the public is saying “We’re fed up with political hacks trying to tell us what we are and are not allowed to ask about our President — we’ll ask him any question we damn well please, for as long as we want to ask it, until we get tired of asking it or until we get an answer to OUR satisfaction.”

That is all.

So what if people talk about birtherism? It’s not like there isn’t an unending opportunity for political discourse on every topic under the Sun between now and 2012.

The fact is the birther talk does hurt Obama. Because he’s just weird. End of story.

Does birtherism hurt the GoP? I don’t think so. How could it? (BTW, did birtherism hurt the Rats when they were blathering on about McCain’s citizenship/eligibility status? Nope.)

The only arguments that have been made that birtherism hurts the GOP are that:

(1) it makes the party look extreme — Hell’s Bells, we’ve never heard that one before! Sacre Bleu, what will we do? Horrors, the GOP is being called EXTREME!!, and.

(2) it “wastes time,” is a “distraction” and some variation on “we can’t walk and chew gum at the same time; no one will ever think about the economy if someone asks questions about Obama’s birth certificate!” Again, Hell’s Bells, people. Get a life.

Please make this topic go away. Posters should post and discuss the latest about Charlie Sheen or some other really important things about Lady Gaga.

Besides, some here on FR are claiming that meeting Constitutional requirements is not that important. Disregard the fact that there are several high profile people asking questions about this topic, FR posters should know that even mentioning this topic makes the LEFT and many newbies on FR quite uncomfortable. And we mustn't have that !

So, don't discuss this subject any further because I am absolutely compelled to post on each and every subject on FR. ... or not.
