Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson announced today that he's running for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

"I'm ready for a different America," Johnson said in a statement today. "I'm ready for the day when a person can build a good life on a decent income, and we can take our government at its word."

Johnson announced his candidacy Thursday morning on the steps of the New Hampshire State House and plans to spend three days in the early-nominating state meeting with supporters and visiting local businesses.

Hmmm...government should be run like a business...ran a cost/benefit analysis on everything...vetoed lots of bills...thinks we spend too much on the war on drugs. He’s not the most dynamic, but he has a real business background.

I'm not enjoying having to Google presidential candidates to find out who they are.

Interesting. I actually like it because it means that there is new blood and new ideas out there in a Party, just a few years ago, that looked like it was headed for the embalming room.

I find more about him to like than dislike. He sounds like a saner version of Ron Paul. He wouldn’t be my first choice, but I’d definitely give him a look if he’s still in the running by the May 2012 Pennsylvania Primary.

“And he’s pro-child-killing.”

I doubt he is for killing children.

Please, for the sake of conservatives, call it abortion.

He's pro abortion.

Killing children means he goes to playgrounds and shoots or slices living, breathing skulls full of mush.

Do you see the difference?

This guy is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a pariah from the depths of the liberal left chameleon RINO factory. He stands no chance.

Not interested. He’s pro-abortion. I’m never going to vote for a pro-abortion candidate.

Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin are the only ones I’m interested in voting for. And as much as I like Palin, I really don’t think she’s got much of a shot. But if she’s running, I’m gonna vote for her. I’m concerned that Bachmann would vote to permit abortion in cases of rape and incest. So if she and Palin run against each other in the primary, I’ll go with Palin.

The reason is this: Except as a step toward a total ban on abortion, it makes no sense to permit it in cases of rape and incest. If the fetus is a human child and has a right to life, then the circumstances of his/her conception, as tragic as they may be, are no reason to kill him/her. You don’t punish the child for the father’s crime.

I’m suspicious of any politician who would vote to permit abortion under any circumstances. Let’s face it. The only justification for banning abortion is that the fetus is an innocent human being. And if that’s the case, then there is no justification at all for killing him/her. And if you think there is any circumstance that justifies the intentional killing of a human being, then I don’t want you in any political office whatsoever, no matter what your positions are on homosexual marriage, the economy, the military, or anything else.

So... I like Bachmann, but this flaw would prevent me from voting for her over a more pro-life candidate.

Couple of thoughts...obviously gives them publicity, and media access. Could be for another run..Senate, governor..I’ve long said that Santorum is really running for the Senate..he can beat Casey this time..another possibility..if they drop out early on, and endorse the winner, and do some campaigning fro him/her..could be positioning for a cabinet post or a nice embassy, or some other cushy DC job..

Do you see the difference?

Surely you jest.

No, I do not judge the humanity or the value of people based on their age or stage of development.

And it's shocking that you make such a silly distinction.

Local barhound and know-it-all announces presidential run
CBS News ^ | 4/21/2011 | Stephanie Condon

That guy who sits at the end of the bar in Jansen's Tavern has announced today that he's running for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

"Those other guys, they don't know jack about jack," that guy said in a statement today. "I was watching Jeopardy the other day, and got like 12 right. And I own my own ATV, that was running great up until like two months ago. And I got a dog."

That guy announced his candidacy Thursday morning at 2:30 from his long-time perch at the bar. He plans to spend the next three years bumming free drinks from supporters and visiting local businesses with his hand out.
