Obama's Likability Gap
The Wall Street Journal ^ | APRIL 21, 2011. | Daniel Henninger

Posted on 04/21/2011 5:49:19 AM PDT by Scanian

If it is true, as Michelle Obama said in February, that her husband isn't smoking anymore, maybe he'd better start mellowing out with the cigs again before it costs him the presidency.

The Barack Obama we've been seeing lately is a different personality than the one that made a miracle run to the White House in 2008.

Obama.2008 was engaging, patient, open, optimistic and a self-identified conciliator.

Obama.2011 has been something else—testy, petulant, impatient, arrogant and increasingly a divider.

Never forget: That historic 2008 victory came with 52.9% of the total vote and 52% of independent voters. David Axelrod recently noted "how small the margin for error is."

Presidential personality is well inside the margin of error for 2012, but the one on display recently has not been attractive. And it's happening a lot.

This Monday, after wrapping up a White House interview with a Dallas TV reporter, the station reported that Mr. Obama said: "Let me finish my answers the next time we do an interview, alright?"

This self-referencing, snappish tone tracks with the president's "open mic" comments last week at a Chicago fund-raiser. Dismissing the GOP as "nickel and diming" him on budget negotiations, he asked, "You think we're stupid?" White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the president wasn't embarrassed. But he should be.

Obama’s relationship with this country is very much like that between a man and a women when they meet. On the first few dates, they lie their asses off to look the best to the other. Things go so well during the lovey-dovey stage that they decide to get married. That is when the REAL person comes out.

Obama-lama-ding-dong lied his ass off during his campaign so people would like him and think he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. So they “married him”. And it was not long after the honeymoon that we saw the REAL Obama.

Now the time for the divorce is at hand.

He wants to have a second term so that he can do untold damage to America with impunity.

Re-election is controlling him somewhat right now but let him get in again and it will really be “Katy bar the door!”

I think Dick Morris has Obamas new strategy pegged. Morris claims that the people running Obamas 2012 campaign realize that he can't run on the "middle of the road" "great uniter" "hope and change" theme he used in 2008. People just aren't going to buy it after they've seen him in action. So they are going to try to get him reelected by stoking the fires of race and class warfare and planting him firmly in the camp of the poor and downtrodden. They hope this is enough to fire up the democrat base to 2008 levels. The second prong of the attack is to demonize republicans as in the pocket of Wall Street and claim they want to starve children, put grandma out on the street etc. They hope to peel away enough "moderates" who will either vote for Obama out of fear or just stay home to put Obama over the top in 2012.

One things for sure, this campaign is going to get ugly, especially come September and October of next year if it looks like Obama may lose.

“stoking the fires of race and class warfare”

That stuff is truly desperate.

Class warfare never worked for John Edwards and it won’t work for Obozo.

Not that I would ever advocate such a thing, but if he does get re-elected, he better DOUBLE the number of Secret Service agents around him.

Just sayin’

And he really won’t be gaining much with the 2% of “African-Americans” that didn’t vote for him.

BO has essentially abused this country everyday...he calls us names, lies to us, takes and spends our money, destroys our home...he is an abusive tyrant and I can’t wait for the divorce to be finalized.

2008- Obama lied about everything to get elected.
2011- The real Obama. He doesn’t have to hide his true
self any longer, the Koolaid drinkers still support
this loser in Chief.

Maybe you should enlighten us with some of the comments. It will do our hearts good to hear that we are not the only ones unhappy about the direction things are going. Why can’t we all just get along?? (sarc intended)

His likability is not a gap, it’s a large chasm with no bottom. The GOP had better come up with someone who is likable and can provide some leadership. Because the current leader is shaky, the world sees Amerika as vulnerable. Only bad things can continue if BS is reelected.

Well, let’s see...what would be fit for family consumption?

OK, “What that you reading? ‘The Roots of Obama’s Rage?’ F-— Obama!”

Or, “Man, what a letdown that boy is.”-—that is a more typical, desultory response.

Hey, they have to live with this crummy economy too!

The Barack Obama we've been seeing lately is a different personality than the one that made…

There was no "Barack Obama" in 2008, only an empty suit we were told to fill with our hopes and dreams. Now that the clueless electorate has seen the barely polished turd that actually lines that suit it slowly starts to dawn on them that they've been had.

And it was not long after the honeymoon that we saw the REAL Obama. Now the time for the divorce is at hand.

And we'll find out if the American public prefers being a beaten spouse or gathers its courage and pride, and boots his a** out the door.

(I don't hold out much hope for the latter.)

I do not think that Obama has changed one bit. The difference between 2008 and 2011 is the lack of a multimillion dollar election campaign combined with the unavoidable scrutiny to which a sitting President is exposed (regardless of his cadre of news media cheerleaders). And also, increasingly, Obama has begun to drop his phony mask of dispassionate bipartisanship and revealed the hyper-partisan, angry man who has always dwelled beneath.
