The power of Ayn Rand devotees has impressed some Hollywood distribution executives, who took note of the hefty $5,640 per-theater average scored by Atlas Shrugged: Part 1 during its opening weekend.
Shocking, one executive said about the healthy business the low-budget film has been doing, considering its awful marketing plan.

Hollywood Miscreants are not shocked but embarrassed at the success of this film. Wait until Part II and Part III in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
NEWSFLASH. We are many, they are few.
What “marketing plan”? The release of Atlas Shrugged Part 1 is Hollyweird’s best kept secret this year.
I’m under 40 and I don’t go to any movies. I just don’t get the concept of sitting in a darkened room with a group of strangers to stare at a screen for 2 hours.
Marketing plan? Oh you mean “ allowing lefty writers like Ebert discredit the film while getting free publicity” marketing plan? Yeah, that awful marketing plan...
Gonna see it this weekend.
Maybe the marketing plan is to release it on 300 screens, force at least some MSMers & the blogs to cover it, thus allowing a wider release.
It’s amazing to me that the producers didn’t plan ahead with more prints. Anyone familiar with the cost of movie reels? How much is a print, about $1000?
Marketing must be terrible as I didn’t even know this movie existed until now. Going to have to check it out!
It’s a 20th Century thing, you guys wouldn’t understand. LOL
I am almost 40 and Atlas is the first movie in years I was looking forward to seeing in theatres and I enjoyed it very much.
From time to time you can see that it is a low budget movie, but I thought it was well acted and made written. Much of the plot revolves around the miraculous metal, and it's hard to make metal sexy, but they do: when you see the bridge, it takes your breath away.
I thought the whole thing packed quite an emotional punch.
I’ve spoke to a few folks that are middle aged that say “Atlas who”?
They can tell you all about American idol though.
The “Marketing Plan” is this: it’s a Novel that the Library of Congress surveyed and reported it was the 2nd most influential book in history behind the Bible. Millions of copies sold since 1957, and an accolade like that. I guess that was too simple for the Marketing Geniuses in Hollywood to grasp LOL!
You're supposed to wait until there's a movie showing, then you will not have to just stare at a screen but can watch the movie.
With todays movies, you’re right.
W ith a really good movie, and a full theater, there is an electricity and energy in the air. That’s something that no home theater can duplicate.
I haven’t been to a movie theater in 15 years. Ain’t going. Let me know when the DVD is out.
I plan on seeing it when it comes to town.
BTW, when should I start referring to myself as almost 40. I’m a week from 37 and saying “almost 40” is sending shivers down my spine!
There’s a kind of social electricity when you know that a crowd shares your emotional outlook, and there aren’t too many snarkers in the audience to ruin it. E.g., it was fun to watch the final fight scene in the Rocky movies in a theater. Plus, the big screen holds your attention - it has a kind of super-reality - that even large-screen TVs cannot match.
