“Way back when I met her she was hanging around with a bunch of CIA folks, various sorts of other kinds of federal police, right wing Dutch Colonials and so on.”

Based on my personal experience interviewing with the CIA and reading their 15 book reading list that they suggested to help recruits understand what the agency, espionage and counterespionage was all about, I would say that if Stanley Ann was a KGB operative recruited in her youth (by KGB asset FM Davis, for example) you have described a truly orgasmic setting for a KGB agent to exploit in scouting, grooming and recruiting future KGB assets!

If Stanley Ann was hired by the US Embassy to do low level clerical stuff not requiring a clearance, then as a conveniently located ex-pat she might never have gone through a US security clearance. Given that she and her father were likely "associates" of FM Davis, clearance might have been denied.

How about this ~ Stanley was there studying Indonesian language at the feet of a fellow who was preparing the FIRST Bhassa Indonesie/English dictionary!

To get to have him teach you it was first necessary to be an "asset" or on your way to being an "asset".

You'll notice the KGB didn't take over Indonesia BUT the USA does have amicable relations with that country.

As far as her being properly vetted, at the time she visited Jogjakarta (the old imperial capital city of the rulers of Java) it was OFFLIMITS for foreigners. Today, much to my surprise (as I did fact checking on the net) it is OPEN to foreigners ~ it has become quite a cultural asset of interest to big spending touristas.

I recall from other reading in her career that she had a cover with the Ford Foundation ~ very typical of the time.

FM Davis was probably as much a target of CIA interest as he was an asset. Then, there's Stanley Ann's daddy ~ and he has every indication of being involved in something ~ and we aren't coming up with anybody who knew him, or even met him.

Guess age got them all.

Worth remember this ~ when I was sworn in I'd been utterly truthful in dealing with my Attorney General's List answers. One of my roommates was a commie. In fact, he had a price on his head set by Ian Smith!

Can't get more commie than that, but he'd been to Indonesia too courtesy of the Soviet Union (where he'd gone to school earlier at Lumumba University ~ that thing set up just for Africans).

Well, Sukarno and company had it all figured out that he was in Indonesia as a "watcher" for the paymasters so they put him to work in a job that would keep him out of their hair. He quickly became a professional "pimp" for Sukarno and his entourage. They'd travel here and there, go to Cuba, Romania, other SE Asian countries, Africa ~ or wherever, at it was Tas' job to get women for their use.

By the time I met him he'd lost all his illusions about EVERYBODY and EVERYTHING, and particularly about White Folk (like the Russians).

He was making a living for himself writing stories about his childhood growing up in a kraal in Rhodesia ~ and he was a pretty good writer. He'd gotten syndicated even.

His big buddies were these two guys from Angola who'd been kinda' shoved out by the Cubans. They wanted to go back and start pumping oil and get rich.

All of these men were typical Africans ~ very black from years in the Sun, and very, very, very poor. They could live on a can of King Oscar for a week, and outside their winter coats, they had trousers, t-shirts and shaving gear. That was about it and they didn't even seem to notice they didn't own anything.

They were getting educated ~ and at a place for more important on a world scale than Lumumba University.

So, yeah, I think I knew something about Soviet espionage techniques and their methods for "grooming folks" and that all went down on my job application.

Well, anyway, the FBI agent looked at that form and said "Well, you roomed with a commie from Rhodesia" ~ and he tore it up saying to me "Look, if you or I lived there we'd probably be commies too" and I filled out a new one without my involvement with real live commies. I'm not sure the guys from Angola were commies anymore ~ they bought an old car for $100 and told me that right there proved that America was the greatest land on Earth because no where else could a poor Negro man just walk down the street and buy a working used car for $100.

That's the old "Socialism in one country" syndrome I've come to understand is the touchstone of Socialist analysis ~ once they see through Socialism they know right from wrong and all that's proper and holy.

The USAID types are not allowed inside the Chancery unless with an escort. There are restricted areas...the badge worn with the circular stamps..denotes the access. She was married to a non citizen...who was in the Army??

They would have been invited to some embassy parties.
