Frontline: Priests Molested “Nearly 80% Of The Town’s Children”
The New Civil Rights Movement.com ^ | 4/19/11 | David Badash

Frontline’s next exposé focuses on the “decades of abuse of Native Americans by priests and other church workers in Alaska,” and in one particular town they find, “nearly 80% of the town’s children were molested” by Catholic priests.

As we reported on this story just a few weeks ago, the Roman Catholic Church, as part of ongoing lawsuits, will make payments to approximately 700 male and female sexual and psychological abuse, molestation, and rape victims who were living in Alaska Native villages and Indian reservations from Montana to Washington, Idaho and Oregon, and who were “sexually or psychologically abused as children by Jesuit missionaries in those states in the 1940s through the 1990s,” according to a statement by attorneys.

The latest agreement will financially compensate 524 victims with $166.1 million in cases including accusations against 140 Jesuit priests, brothers, and nuns from the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus, in the Pacific Northwest. Only $48 million will come from the Catholic Church, the remainder will be paid by its insurance companies.

None of the Jesuit priests are being charged with any crime related to this abuse, rape, and molestation settlement.

From the show, the Bishop of the Fairbanks Diocese “we can never do enough to help them and stop the hurt”

So, the Bishop has gone up to apologize to victims on behalf of the church. Sounds to me like the church admits what happened. The courts found that it happened. The victims know it happened, but you and buccaneer have some special knowledge that it didn’t.

And your only argument is to deflect to some gay publication that linked this?

Cognitive Dissonance. Look it up, you are soaking in it.

Repeated abuse, as well as willfully hiding the crimes and the criminals — as far as I can see, this brings us much closer to the realm of mortal sin.

And the sinners include not just the church hierarchy, but also attorneys who ill-advised parents not to buck the system and take on the Catholic Church, or may even have provided inside information to thwart legitimate cases against the church, law enforcement officials who may have thought it best to warn church officials of pending investigations, and janitors, housekeepers, teachers, and employees of the Catholic Church who kept silent because of concerns about a paycheck, a 401K, a pension, or a fear of standing up to church authorities.

God has a place for everyone — and if you abuse children or protect the abusers of children, we can only hope that your place is called Hell.

Thank you for the link. Excellent article...

That article you linked to is nuts.

Here is are some quotes:

And they still deny the heinous crimes and expect their weekly bounty of donations. But as more and more cases of abuse — and cover-up — come to light, one begins to wonder whether the Pope and his entourage of red hats should be considered any more trustworthy than, say, Saddam Hussein.

Later:

So — what should be done now that we know it’s a pattern of terror orchestrated by the Catholic Church and repeated everywhere the dysfunctional sex freaks have established a church, school, hospital or other institution. Given the level of wreckage and anguish caused in the lives of so many people, it seems appropriate to look to the war on terror for a model strategy.

A first prong of attack at the Vatican might involve a Special Forces unit made up of highly skilled and trained military personnel capable of tracking down and obtaining confessions from any current or former priests accused of acts of sexual abuse against children. If rights are violated, if military personnel sometimes go a little too far, so be it. The Catholic Church had ample opportunity to fess up and repent. Those incapable of civilized behavior shouldn’t expect the rights and privileges of civilization.

IMO God himself has brought this into the public because the church has failed miserably to address it.....Gods cleaning the House because they have refused to.

I believe that too...

Why are you making issue of this? Many news agencies are reporting from that site...go google and see for yourself. Are you trying to make something out of nothing?

Do they say that priests molested nearly 80% of the town's children?

And your only argument is to deflect to some gay publication that linked this?

It's always wise to consider the sources.

Cognitive Dissonance. Look it up, you are soaking in it.

False.

Elsie Boudreau, 42, abused for years by a priest in Nome, Alaska, beginning when she was 10 years old, said the settlement helps ease victims’ feelings of shame and guilt because it “places the blame where it needs to be.”

“It really isn’t about the money,” she told Reuters. “They came into our Alaska villages and reservations proclaiming God’s love and showed us the face of evil.”

You’re taking Scarpetta’s sources as valid, since you’re backing her up.

Oh for crying outloud...just go do a search on this news and you'll see not only other news agencies refering to Frontline and PBS but other sources are reporting this happening as well. This tactic of defaming the source and the poster is as old as the hills on FR when it comes to trying to coverup for any news of the Priests abuse of children. Sheesh! Buccaneer, it's well know worldwide and on the worldwide news!

Why can't you just address the issue with a comment which does just that instead of finding ways to discredit others opinions? The catholic church is a business....and yes businesses often do settle out of court. But in this case you are talking a world wide business that stands to have continual lawsuits for the degree of the infestation of these perps worldwide....as with any business they will settle those based on who is involved and the degree of importance to their operations....thus we find many protecting the Pope and various Bishops....but no matter how they play their cards the house of cards within the catholic church is falling....and needs to. IMO God himself has brought this into the public because the church has failed miserably to address it.....Gods cleaning the House because they have refused to.

It's absolutely unconscionable that the world should do a better job in the moral arena of prosecuting pedophiles who come to their attention than the Catholic church, which claims the moral high ground. The world should not be setting the example for the church to follow. The RCC claims to have its authority from God and the world doesn't even have the moral underpinnings to establish an absolute moral guideline and they're doing a better job in this area than the Catholic church.

The Catholic church stands condemned when showed up morally by an immoral, or amoral, world system.

“As part of the settlement Jesuits agreed to send priests to speak with victims about what happened and to counsel victims that they should not feel at fault, attorney for abuse victims, Rebecca Rhoades said.

They also agreed to post on the order’s website the names of priests known to have committed abuse and to no longer refer to those who were abused as ‘alleged victims.”

Of course certain posts are ignored when the intent is so obvious....why not just give it up and address the issue of Priests sexually abusing hundreds of children on a worldwide basis and the failure of the church to prosecute those who are to blame.

You knee-jerk come to the defense of gay rapists, simply because you share their faith. And then you smear those who denounce homosexual rape.

Look at yourself. Why are you defending wrong-doers, and attacking those who oppose wrong? Is your denomination so fragile that you must come to its defense, even if that means slandering victims and taking the side of rapists?

You are so right, Metmom. I am proud to have spoken with so many good people here tonight who grieve for these lost children. May God bless them.
