Leading warmist admits he was bamboozled by fear-mongers - on nuclear power
American Thinker ^ | April 19, 2011 | Thomas Lifson

The original moonbat, GeorgeMonbiot, columnist for the left wing UK Guardian, now admits that he was bamboozled by fearmongers whipping up anti-nuclear fears.

Over the last fortnight I've made a deeply troubling discovery. The anti-nuclear movement to which I once belonged has misled the world about the impacts of radiation on human health. The claims we have made are ungrounded in science, unsupportable when challenged, and wildly wrong. We have done other people, and ourselves, a terrible disservice.

I began to see the extent of the problem after a debate last week with Helen Caldicott. Dr Caldicott is the world's foremost anti-nuclear campaigner. She has received 21 honorary degrees and scores of awards, and was nominated for a Nobel peace prize. Like other greens, I was in awe of her. In the debate she made some striking statements about the dangers of radiation. So I did what anyone faced with questionable scientific claims should do: I asked for the sources. Caldicott's response has profoundly shaken me.

Well, it's a start. Dr. Caldicott has been virtually sainted by the anti-nuclear movement, yet when Monbiot investigated her sources, he discovered that they were:

...nine documents: newspaper articles, press releases and an advertisement. None were scientific publications; none contained sources for the claims she had made. But one of the press releases referred to a report by the US National Academy of Sciences, which she urged me to read. I have now done so - all 423 pages. It supports none of the statements I questioned; in fact it strongly contradicts her claims about the health effects of radiation.

Monbiot remains one of the most hysterical wamrists, calling for " drastic action needed now" to combat the alleged dangers posed to our survival. The very same concerns expressed by thinkers like Charles Manson.

Now that Monbiot's eyes have been opened to the machinations fraudsters, perhaps he would examine the hysterical and false predictions of climate refugees and other nonexistent dangers advanced by the charlatans pushing warmist doctrine, as well as the efforts to "hide the decline."

I’m embarrassed about how badly I mangled the word “Chernobyl.” When will FR get a spell check? Help!

Are we the only ones to remember the nuclear disarmament movement of the ‘80s? It made a PETA rally look like a garden party.

Spell check it has....what I am craving for is an 'Edit' button for those typos that still pass spelling muster.

How do I do spell check? Have you ever hit the “post” button while at the same time you’ve made a silly typo? No way to grab it back!

There is a SPELL box before the PREVIEW and POST buttons.

Have you ever hit the “post” button while at the same time you’ve made a silly typo? No way to grab it back!

And that is why I wish there was a user specific EDIT button included alongside the [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 2 | View Replies | Report Abuse] list as an option for the original poster to go back into their comment after-the-fact and correct mistakes.

Firefox has a built-in spell check. You might be able to add one to whatever browser you are using.

Lack of post editing is a feature. Jim didn’t want people to be able to change their words, which is not a bad thing on a sometimes-contentious political forum.

Just finished reading. A sick broad on the par with my favorite evil leftist female maniac: Madalyn Murray O’Hare. And look what happened to her!

BTW....most modern browsers include a SpellCheck option as a matter of course.

Try 'right' clicking your mouse in the edit box and see if you don't have that option yourself.

Both my Chrome and FireFox browsers do that and the Chrome version even gives me the red underline under misspelled words thingy without me having to do the right click thing.

LOL....so Jim and Microsoft have something in common. :o)

I can understand the reasoning and am fine with that.

Still...it would be nice to have, say, something that leaves the original post intact, but adds a box immediately under the original post so you don't have a zillion posters "correcting" you until if/when they see your sadly sheepish mea culpa many posts later.
