Over the last fortnight I've made a deeply troubling discovery. The anti-nuclear movement to which I once belonged has misled the world about the impacts of radiation on human health. The claims we have made are ungrounded in science, unsupportable when challenged, and wildly wrong. We have done other people, and ourselves, a terrible disservice.
I began to see the extent of the problem after a debate last week with Helen Caldicott. Dr Caldicott is the world's foremost anti-nuclear campaigner. She has received 21 honorary degrees and scores of awards, and was nominated for a Nobel peace prize. Like other greens, I was in awe of her. In the debate she made some striking statements about the dangers of radiation. So I did what anyone faced with questionable scientific claims should do: I asked for the sources. Caldicott's response has profoundly shaken me.
...nine documents: newspaper articles, press releases and an advertisement. None were scientific publications; none contained sources for the claims she had made. But one of the press releases referred to a report by the US National Academy of Sciences, which she urged me to read. I have now done so - all 423 pages. It supports none of the statements I questioned; in fact it strongly contradicts her claims about the health effects of radiation.
Oh, how I remember the awful fraudster Helen Caldicott from the 1980s! Reagan was the devil and Churnobel a minor occurance.
But this Mr. Moonbat person sounds like an unmitigated idiot.
Hmmmmm, quoting other left wing moonbats as her documentation. Reminds me of the global warming crazies quoting each other as their sources.
LOL! Couldn't agree more, she made some wild accusations for him to question her.
It’s hard to believe that old crow is still alive.
There have been plenty of nuclear power fear mongers here at FR in the wake of Fukushima Daiichi.
Every time you turn on an electric light, you are making another brainless baby — Helen Caldicott, Union of Concerned Scientists
She’s just another watermelon - green on the outside, commie red on the inside.

Too bad one of the global warming alarmists doesn’t take such a reasoned review of Al Gores movie.
Yep, especially when the first frantic reports started coming out in the enemedia.
I was always told that a nuclear detonation would render the impact zone and its surroundings uninhabitable for hundreds of years............They never mentioned Hiroshima or Nagasaki
Me too. She was 100% owned and operated by the KGB back then as part of their push for unilateral disarmament by the West. When she would be in Moscow, she never said a word about the Soviet arms build up or their inherently unsafe nuclear plants like Chernobyl. But in the West, she opposed all things nuclear with outright lies.
She is a thoroughly despicable woman.
A plant that might go into meltdown is a legitimate concern - then again more people were killed in Ted Kennedy’s car than killed by radiation at Fukushima...
(oops, forgot one HTML control character there...)
The first one worked fine for me.
I agree, people are going to insist on nuclear power when they can’t afford electricity any longer. The approach Obama and thugs and Greenies are taking now is ridiculous.
FR closes unclosed tags at the end of a post for you, and has for some time. Old-timers will recall the shenanigans and havoc that were created due to unclosed tags affecting the following posts. People even kept handy a short text file that was basically “close everything in html” for posting into such threads to bring them back to normalcy.

Their approach is insane at best, and possibly a knowing attempt to destroy the country as we know it. This country’s economic success has been built on cheap energy and limited government regulation.
Thanks, I didn’t understand but that makes sense to me.
It just could be a knowing attempt to destroy us. We know for certain Obama’s interests are not for the good of the country and enviro-nazis are complete nuts.
