Cuba says it will allow people to buy and sell their homes for the first time since the communist revolution in 1959.
For the past 50 years, Cubans have only been allowed to pass on their homes to their children, or to swap them through a complicated and often corrupt system.
The move was decided during the first congress held by the ruling Communist Party in 14 years, aimed at breathing new life into the communist system.
No details were given on how the new property sales could work.
Cuban President Raul Castro warned that the concentration of property would not be allowed.
During the congress, President Castro also said top political positions should be limited to two five-year terms, and promised "systematic rejuvenation" of the government.

Cuban President Raul Castro...
Wow, will miracles never cease?
“promised “systematic rejuvenation” of the government.”
i.e., tired of the failed communist economy.
Chairman Obama sorely dissapointed.
The congress’ approval had been widely expected because some of the reforms, such as allowing more self-employment and leasing of state land to private farmers, are already in place.
The reforms include slashing more than a million government jobs over the next few years, cutting subsidies, encouraging more private initiative, giving more autonomy to state companies, encouraging more foreign investment and reducing state spending.
Under President Raul Castro’s plan, which included more than 300 reforms, one of the trademark features of the paternalistic socialist system — the universal monthly food ration — will be gradually phased out for those who do not need it.
The Cubans will have more rights than we have here if they are allowed to own their property.
With so many regulations in this country , tax’s ,zoning,I cannot even cut a tree on my property. I don’t own it, I am just renting it from the government.
Incredible. They are doing exactly what we should be doing...instead of raising the 'debt ceiling.'
Y E A !!!!!
I guess this means that the American left will no longer support the Cuban government.
A “Even a broken clock is right, twice.” moment.
are aimed at securing the future of socialism in one of the world's last communist states.
capitalist reforms to secure the future of socialism...
kind of like government spending cuts that are really tax increases from obama.
It was inevitable. Just as Chinese commies are finding that capitalism is the only way to grow an economy. Ditto for Europe’s flirtation with Marxism. The Soviet Union and East Germany’s Marxist states failed miserably. And N. Korea is a basket case.
Meanwhile, we have the Usurping Marxist Onada and his band of angry commies trying to force Marxism on America. Our Constitution and capitalism made America quickly into the preminent and social engine the world has ever seen. Onada wants to trade it out for an economic and political system that fails where ever it exists or been tried.
All aboard! There’s a big ole sheriff’s sale on Cuba! Cash on the barrelhead!
I’m Waiting for health care in Cuba to be privatized and the Michael Moore’s coronary that will most certainly follow.
One wonders if Oliver Stone hasn’t blown a gasket over the privatization of Cuba??
Wait until the families of the Cuban exiles return, holding the deeds to their land. This promises to be a lawyers’ field day.
What state is that? What agency is forcing you to not cut a tree?
You don’t understand. There are no other jobs aside from govt jobs n a communist country.
It is still light years away from anything like that.
See the link in post #4.
They completed some 300 changes to the politics, economics, etc. the past few days.
It is not I that doesn’t understand...
It appears to me...that revolution came to Cuba or they are trying hard to avoid the chaos of the masses following the middle east.
It will be interesting to see if the people ...getting a taste of capitalism, will be as willing as Americans to give it up to keep the socialism?
