According to another report, it was not plugged in for the second fire.

The reports seem to leave a lot to the imagination.

is it bad that i laugh at the thought of a moronic leftie having their house burn down due to them buying a govt car that was supposedly 'green'?

ok... yes... it's bad. that's ok, i'll take it as a guilty pleasure. :)

marshmallows anyone?

The car was the source of the fire, not the electrical wiring in the garage. I’m sure the second time the car was not plugged in to anything because I recall that the garage was essentially destroyed in the first fire.

Solar Panel Fires
However, there may be a dark cloud on the solar horizon. To minimize installation costs, many solar designers connect the panels together in high voltage “strings” – typically operating at 250 to 400 direct current volts, up to a maximum of 600 volts DC (1,000 volts DC in Europe). If there is a short in one of these wires – perhaps caused by improper installation, animal damage or just wear over time — the wires will arc as long as the panels are in direct sunlight. This electrical arc produces extremely high temperatures, high enough to melt through metal enclosures – and certainly hot enough to cause a fire.
These high voltage systems can present a danger to solar installers and electricians who are not taking the proper precautions during installation and servicing, and can be quite dangerous to firefighters who may be called to the scene in the case of a fire.

“I thought you needed to have 240v in your garage, which most people have to put in special as I don’t think it is standard circuitry in most garages.”

With standard 120 v the car will charge but very slow. In the metro Detroit area (Motor City) they were taking applications for free 240 v charging stations to be installed. I guess Obama took over the utility company also.

LOL - although, I’d take a $2000 Pinto over one of these government motors firetraps any day. At least you had to provoke the Pinto to get it to burn!

True confession - I actually owned a Pinto wagon. Drove it for 5 years, then sold it to a friend. He put it over 100K, which was an achievement back then. 2.3L “Kent” engine, 4 speed stick, 3.08 axle ratio. Used to drive it like I stole it! Lots of fun in a cheap package.

There is a triple wammy here for GM and no one sees it....

1.) The S & P is saying the US ( and all it's spending and investments, i.e. GM are a bad credit risk.
2.) On Detroit TV this A.M. the Gov't is kabitzing about selling all it's GM shares now that it is had gone below its IPO price, and they are potentially thinking about that in a downward market.
3.) If this is car centric and not the charing station/home wiring and their are more of them, no pun intended the Volt is toast...

Vega + 5 Billion Bailout = Volt

I too had a Vega. I will never trust a GM product that Starts with the letter V and has four letters.

Volt jokes:

1. How do you double the value of a Volt?.....put a battery pack in back

2, How do you get out of foreclosure?...put a Volt in the garage and collect the insurance money

3. How do you stop a Volt from being stolen?...take the battery pack with you

4. Why has Volt got heated rear windows?...keeps the hands warm when pushing home through snow.

5. Why not turn radio on while moving?...speed drops to half.
