Translating Trump
The American Thinker ^ | 4/18/11 | C. Edmund Wright

Donald Trump is jumping ugly with Barack Obama -- and conservative voters should cheer this and would-be candidates should take notes. Frankly, I love the whole thing. That, however, should be the extent of conservatives' flirtation with the real estate billionaire.

As demonstrated for all to hear on Friday's Rush Limbaugh Show, Trump presents an incoherent political philosophy that is built mainly on the Perot-esque notion that we should vote for Trump because, well, he is Trump. Actually, part of me finds this very refreshing, but as a conservative I just can't get past the incoherent philosophy thing. Trump is bolder than 2 Bushes, a Dole and a McCain stylistically, but maybe even squishier on the big issues.

This guy nails it. Cheer for Trump to take down Bambi, fear the nonsense liberalism that has been the real Donald his whole life.

My spidey senses are tingling...and not in a good way.

Methinks your spidey senses got it right. I've loved Trump blasting Bambi, but discovering he's not any where near being a conservative makes me wonder what he's doing pretending to run for president as one.

His record shows him being to the left of Olympia Snowe........not good.

An incoherent philosophy is a pretty good indicator of an “independent” or, at best, a RINO. It shows the individual has never taken the time to sort out what they believe as first principles and then walk logically through the consequent policies and positions. They are political loose cannons and never to be trusted.

At this point in the campaign, before most have actually joined the battles, The Donald is drawing Messianic blood. More power to him.

The references to Perot don’t cut it. Perot was (is) but a whiney pipsqueak. The Donald has presence and mass. He is sort of a TV star, known to all for his success and also big time failures.

By this time next year when the primary matters are serious, Obama may very well be out of the running, bled to death in 2011 with the smoking remains of a teleprompter all that remains. .

Donald Trumps’ political philosophy is something along the lines of big government isn’t working because we don’t have the right guy in charge. And, of course, the all-wise, all-knowing Donald is the right guy. Did you know he’s really smart and really successful. If not, just listen to him the next time he speaks. I’m sure he’ll tell you.

And, yes, I am thrilled that he is putting some heat to Obama.

Did you hear any of the clips Mark Levin played Friday night of Trump trashing GWB, rooting for Obama and praising nationalized health care?

Talk about a charlitan....

Conservative my a**

The Donald is a bigger self serving tool than the current WH occupant.

And according to reports, Trump voted for Charlie Crist. That tells me all I need to know. Waiting for Sarah.

I'm cheering the Messianic blood spilled, as does the article writer.

I just don't want him anywhere near the GOP nomination, but him running as an independent would be even more of a disaster

I agree wholeheartedly. Trump statements were incoherent in Rush’s interview.

I used Perot because A: there is an obsession with trade protectionism to pander to unions and B: no obsession with how big government is out of control and C: the tough talk appeals to some conservatives and D: the threat of running as an independent and E: no real defining philosophy to speak of and F: just hire me and I’ll fix it no questions asked.

But I”ll give you the pipsqueak point.

Right, we’ve got it. Trump says - I’m really smart and successful. Okay. Why am I reminded of John Kerry’s - I served in Vietnam....

I'm really trying to figure out Trump's "angle" here. He has to know that he's at best a longshot for a party nomination, let alone the Presidency, and it's clear that he's not acting in the interest of political ideology, because he doesn't seem to have one he can even articulate.

So, what's the game? If it's simply a publicity stunt, then I suppose it's succeeded. Trump can make a few headlines, get a lot of folks worked up, and then just take a pass after the TV season is over.

There has been a lot of speculation (including by yours truly) that Trump is simply doing this not to win himself, but to damage Obama because Obama has been bad for business. This makes the most sense, except for one glaring logical flaw that I haven't been able to reconcile: if this is the case, then why isn't Trump challenging Obama in the Democrat primary instead of talking about running as a Republican? As a Democrat candidate, Trump would be able to take Obama on directly, possibly even one-on-one, in debates and advertising.

The third option is that Trump is using his own buffoonery to intentionally crash and burn, discrediting anyone remotely connected with any of the ideas and issues he's been espousing. The problem with this scenario is that I don't see what's in it for Trump.

So, the best theory I've currently got is that it's the first option (publicity) for Trump, but that the media has latched onto the last idea, and Trump may be playing into that just for the extra press it gives him. But that conclusion is only a theory, and can be changed if new facts come to light.

“Why am I reminded of John Kerry’s - I served in Vietnam....”

I was actually thinking about that as I was typing my post.

This writer isn't translating anything, but is only an apologist for the status quo. He uses the totally misleading notion that jobs have left the US primarily because of unions. Maybe he will be the one to finally explain why hundreds of thousands of non-union, lower paying textile jobs were among the first to leave the US for cheap labor nations, along with hudreds of thousands of other light manufacturing jobs.

This guy has nothing to add. He totally absolves China and other trading partners of anything at all. Apparently they are all totally upfront and honest and fair. No patent violations, no copyright violations, no product counterfeiting, no spying and industrial espionage, why, this clown can find nothing to criticize about how the Chinese do business. It's all just that big old childish mogul Trump complaining.

And this clownish apologist thinks he's added something to the discussion?

Good post, it's hard to comprehend the motives for what he's doing. I do enjoy when he takes Bambi down, it's a great blueprint for the GOP, perhaps Trump's resonance with the public on the issues he hammers Bambi on will wake the sleeping RINO's up.

———So, what’s the game?———

Consider the concept of a cabal, a group of business leaders who over cigars and brandy agreed Obama is a disaster and must be removed. They are New Yorkers, perhaps even from both parties but Manhattanites all. The question is how is the best way?

The Donald was there. He is out of work.....no real estate deals, no money to borrow to finance them. He has time on his hands and a high profile and appears pretty regular on Cavuto ( Roger Ailes there? Rupert him self?) and other TV shows. He was asked or might have volunteered his services to take the job. It will be fun!!

The job was to dish the dirt and dredge all the issues out into the bright light, go everywhere on TV and Rush and all the other places where the message is buried. If elected, the Cabal will provide the cabinet but if not so what, back to toiling for the big bucks.

That’s what I think happened
