Atlas Shrugged Part 1 Quick Review- 5 stars!
Very faithful to Rand's ideas. I didn't feel like they skipped any major items... the back story with Francisco was hinted at and would have been too hard to develop completely.
Casting was superb. Hank (Hooray!) and Lillian (Boo!)Rearden and Ellis Wyatt (!!!) were done perfectly as was Wesley Mouch and the other moochers and looters. Dagny was good but it took about ten minutes for me to completely buy her in the role.
Pace was perfect... it kept moving at a fast speed, and I didn't want it to end.
Cinematography very good- hard to believe only cost about $5 million! The Rearden Metal bridge was great, as was the Colorado landscape shots...
Audience Reaction: Duluth, GA 12:25pm showing was about 80% full (there was noon showing in a larger theater already going) & audience reacted with enthusiasm throughout and Applause at end.
Can't wait for Part 2! I will be going back to see Part One more than once...
Minor nitpick- shouldn't have had the date 2016 on the movie, it is timeless.
How was John Galt? I always wondered how he would play on screen.
bookmarked for later perusal
Didn’t know this was out yet—thanks for the review. Who played Hank, Dagny, Francisco, and Ellis?
Going Tonite!
And who is John Galt?
An omen!
Same here. 7:20 show. Haven’t been to a movie in over a year, because they’re all crap now; but looking forward to this one.
I don’t think we know John Galt as John Galt at this point in the story (a bit of a spoiler, I suppose).
Galt isn’t revealed until later in the story, is he? (Although he is in the background from the beginning.)
Mysterious and his face was shadowed as they showed him meeting up with the "Vanished" capitalists... I liked that aspect of setting it up as a Missing Persons mystery...
The role is played (I think) by the Director for this first third of the trilogy and then another actor will play the part in the next two movies where Galt has a bigger role...
This was only the first third of the novel, hence PART ONE, so John Galt's role is in the shadows.
Two parts—wow!
going at 7:10 tonight
No offense intended ... Read the book.
The plan is for three parts which correspond to the section breakdown of the book.
Please disregard my question about the cast; I found a list. All are unknown to me, which is probably good; they won’t remind me of other characters they’ve played.
I saw the movie at 12:45 PM central. I give it 4 stars.
Faithful to the book, precision cuts were made. I have one major cut complaint, and that is the couple page screed that outlined the destruction of the 20th century motor company from a bum. I probably would have done a short flashback type of thing showing how the will to work fades away.
Acting was rigid, but after a while you stop noticing it.
I watched it with my wife who has never read the book, and she got the primary emphasis on individualism, economics, motivation, and the obvious similarities to the crap government is pulling today.
If you have read it, I think you will enjoy it.
The book has three parts ...
Really! Clearly I haven't been paying attention. I'm really looking forward to the movie now. Thanks for the info.
HOORAY FOR THE RYAN BUDGET!
The 2012 election is when we make our choice between a controlled down-sizing of government or guaranteed future collapse of the whole system. WATCH THIS VIDEO of PAUL RYAN arguing for his plan prior to the vote - a choice of two futures!
