Robert Redford On Sarah Palin: ‘Part Of Her Strength Is How Limited She Is’
mediaite ^ | 4/14/11 | Jon Bershad

Posted on 04/14/2011 9:56:52 AM PDT by Nachum

In an interview to promote his new film The Conspirator, Robert Redford had some interesting thoughts on Sarah Palin as well as her followers. Ouch. It’s one thing to get picked on by the Bill Maher’s and David Letterman’s of the world. I mean, that’s gotta stink but a public figure can get over it. However, to get dissed by the freakin’ Sundance Kid. Now that’s got to hurt.

The interview was for Aol’s PopEater and the comments in question came as the discussion turned to Redford’s great film Quiz Show (if you haven’t seen that one, you’re missing out) about the quiz show scandals of the 1950s. Here’s what he had to say and how it got back to Mama Grizzlie:

“REDFORD: I felt like in that moment in history the quiz shows and the scandal that came, at that moment entertainment got exposed but academia got exposed, the corruption. The sad thing is it didn’t hurt entertainment, it hurt academia.

POPEATER: Well I find it sad that Sarah Palin insinuates that higher education is elitist. I can’t work that one out.

REDFORD: Well, I can because the country is made up of three categories. Traditionalists, cultural creative people and the moderns. The moderns are the hi-tech Silicon Valley people. The traditionalists on the lower end of it are the people who don’t want change, they’re afraid of change therefore they have anger. The fear card is a very big powerful card and when you have people afraid of change; they’ll do anything to prevent it. They’re doing it because they’re limited, frightened of people who are not as limited. I think Sarah Palin, part of her strength is how limited she is.”

Of course, it's a matter of opinion. I've never considered Redford even a good actor. The best example I can think of is the degree of talent he was surrounded by in “The Sting”, and how outclassed he appeared.

He was just awful in “The Great Gatsby”, but his career kept growing. Even in “The Natural”, his work was just average. Funny, but now that you mention it, his best work might have been that episode of the “Twilight Zone”.

It's just not his politics. Lot's of very good to great actors from his generation, Jack Nicholson, Robert Deniro, Paul Newman, or even modern day, Sean Penn, I strongly disagree with politically. But, I still recognize the quality of their work. In Redford's case, I'm pretty sure that the guys looks dictated his career success. But, like I said, it's all a matter of opinion.

Redford is mourning the death of Paul Newman - without someone to associaye with via an old movie, he has no self-value. In order to try to regain his vicarious self-worth, he is trying to demean someone in order to make himself look better.

Trouble is, Palin is not only 100% woman, she is also 8.4 times the man that Redford could ever hope to be.

Ole Palin accomplished more as Governor up here in her short term than any other Gov I've seen over the 20 years I've been here. The left never looks at her record of accomplishments.

Another telling sign is that while she was Governor, the dems up here liked Palin well enough as she often supported their issues when they were cost efficient and good for Alaska.

I even heard that goof ball Shauna Moore (moore up north) remark that she missed Sarah Palin after dealing with our new Crooked Repub Gov Parnell. She'd take Sarah back hands down , ha ha.

And I always remember when the river washed out the old Indian Village at ice out 2 years back. The Indians got out with their clothes on their backs, middle of the night; water went up 26 feet in 4-5 hours. Indians all went out end of the road to new village, were in small tents. Palin showed up to see what she could do and wondered were the Indians were. Told her they were all out the new village. She borrowed a 4 wheeler, headed out a mud bog, winch time trail to find them. Wanted those guys to know she was here to see them too. Now that's a first for sure as most govt people don't even want to see the (seemingly but not) backward Indians. That tells me something about Palin's character & makeup and she's the only gov I've ever seen up here all covered with mud on a 4 wheeler.

I once saw Redford up close, the “Little Fella” is sure short, even with his lift heels, looked to be just a bit over five foot tall.

That pic is interesting, gives proof to a theory the wife has. She has often commented as to how some cute baby face men in their youth, get quite ugly as they age. Yet, some men who were not handsome when young, get better looking the older they get.

After 50 years of marriage, I have noted she says it more lately, usually just before she wants to go shopping, only a coincidence I’m sure.

Have you noticed how HRC and the members of Team Clinton never bash Sarah, not even a little?

It's been open season for two and a half years, and yet...nothing from the Xlintons. Strange, eh?

Redford isn’t what I would call a giant intellect. For that matter, I believe my own experience is proof that he is just full of hot air. I live in Silicon Valley. I am a conservative. I am an engineer - often considered an “early adopter” of technology. With Redford’s explanation of people - I’m an oxymoron - which I am NOT!

I like his movies -that doesn’t mean he has anything intelligent to say about our political situation.

What does Bob know?

He just produced a 2 hour cinematic apologia to one of the Lincoln assassination conspirators.

But to that washed-up has-been Mary Surratt was a “victim” I suppose.

**** Sarah Palin insinuates that higher education is elitist. I can’t work that one out****

That might be because she's never said it. W went to Yale and the elites hated him. Elitism has more to do with an attitude where you look down on patriotism and real belief in God and a belief in people over government programs and one scoffs at personal freedom.
