Tina Fey: Palin Parody May Have Hurt My Sitcom
A Political Look at Hollywood ^ | 4/05/2001 | James Hirsen

Posted on 04/13/2011 6:10:33 AM PDT by wmileo

Tina Fey may have been the darling of the left for her Emmy-winning impersonations of Sarah Palin on “Saturday Night Live.” But the comedic actress-director is now expressing regrets about her Palin pokes in her new book, “Bossypants.” As a matter of fact, Fey suspects that mimicking the former Alaska governor may have hurt the ratings of her NBC sitcom, “30 Rock.” “Some may argue that exploiting Governor Palin and her family helped bring attention to my low-rated TV show,” Fey writes in an excerpt published in USA Today. “I am proud to say you are wrong. My TV show still enjoys very low ratings.” “In fact, I think the Palin stuff may have hurt the TV show. Let’s face it, between Alec Baldwin and me there is a certain fifty percent of the population who think we are pinko Commie monsters,”

I've known a few people who use Netflix over here. It's kind of a hassle - bandwidth in our quarters can be low and the snail-mail system is very slow.

I buy bootleg DVDs at the Haji-Marts (local stores operating on base) and have even seen a couple of pretty good series like "Mad Men" and "Band of Brothers."

The selections tend to be more current movies and series with a few classics here and there ("American Graffiti," "Dirty Dancing," the "Star Wars" series, etc.) I found "Jaws" and the Batman movie from the 60s not too long ago and those were both great fun to watch.

Naturally, people snap up the series collections of "The Office" and others I've never seen or thought were stupid if I saw one or two like they're going out of style.

I saw "30 Rock" once when I was home. It left me flat. I don't know if I just need to see a few more episodes or it it just sucks.

Sarah Palin is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN unlike Comrade Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama.

You forgot Steve Dunham!

She didn’t learn the lesson from her mom

Interesting. Who is her mom and her story?

You reap what you sow. God is not mocked.

True, but what has that to do with Palin?

There are really bad episodes, usually the ones featuring Tracy Morgan. Jane Krackowski (sic, sheesh) is a total crackup and so is the guy who plays the intern. I’d give the series another shot. Try to get hold of a couple of discs at one time and watch like 10 episodes in a row. You’ll get the feel better that way. Do watch them in order, oddly for a series that is so absurd, the order of episodes matters. I am happy to give a list of things I’d think you could just buy from Amazon outright, if you want.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! And thanks for all the service you gave, whether in or out of the military. Don’t spend all your danger pay in one place now that it’s worth 10 cents on the dollar you were promised. (thbbt :P)

So, you can browse in NetFlix for your own good self, too. Win-win, Allegra.

An alternative theory explaining the low ratings is that the show is stupid and not very funny.

• *She didn’t learn the lesson from her mom
Interesting. Who is her mom and her story?*

I’m just thinking of the expression that everyone’s mom says, ”If your friends jump in the lake, would you jump in the lake?”
Usually asked during freezing cold weather after you have joined your friends in some sort of hooliganism

In other words, if you go around trying to destroy someone else’s career yours may be damaged due to unseen laws of reciprocity. If you plant bitterness, you may grow a crop of bitterness against yourself. Don't plant weeds.

Sarah Palin may be a good candidate, but she's not a deity.

Yeah, and Guy Williams, Tina Louise and Russell Johnson would have all been A-list movie stars had they not been typecast in “Lost in Space” and “Gilligan’s Island.”

“Finally figuring out that alienating 50% of the population is not good for business.”

Correct. Maybe Oprah has learned that as well?
