This Rally was located in Monticello and Blanding Utah. The purpose of the Rally was to let the land agencies and all the environmental groups like SUWA and the Old Broads from Durango know that we have had enough. The hope is that through this peaceful assembly the feds and the environmentalist will see that San Juan County residence are united and want our way of life left alone.

The “Old Broads” seem to be a well funded group.
Anyone know anything about The Maki Foundation?
I’m with the enviros here. What makes the ATV’ers think they can damage ecologically sensitive areas and destroy ancient dwellings?
I’ve seen the damage ATV’s can do. I was on the Alpine Loop in the fall of 2008, and I couldn’t believe some of the idiocy the ATV’ers were responsible for. Felt like shooting a couple of them, and I’ll guaran-damned-tee you, the vast majority of FReepers would have felt the same way if they’d seen what I did.
I like ATV’s-I rent them sometimes; BUT I would never pull some of the crap these people seem to do.
Oh, yeah-one other thing-flame away!
I don’t really know enough about it to comment on the situation and was hoping some freepers could enlighten me. From what I could figure out, it sounded like the ATV folks just wanted to use some trails that had been previously been open, but they’re not allowed to use now, and the well funded enviros are trying to make as much land as possible off limits to the off road enthusiasts.
Idiots are not restricted to any single group of people or hobby.
When younger, we enjoyed ambulating by shanks mare, X-country skiing, horse back and snow machining. But today due to age, ATV is about the only way we can get around in remote areas. We do no damage, and I sure do not want to be restricted doing so because of a few nut cases.
