After visiting Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum (Enterprise) last year, I knew that venue would get one of the shuttles... it is well worth the price of admission... very high profile location in the Big Apple too.

The space shuttle should be homed in a city with a high muslim population and turned into mosque.

It’s the only way to keep Obama happy.

so wrong that two go to the Northeast and one to California. None in FL, Houston, or the Wright Pat museum in OH.

I would have done one in DC for sure, and then two in some combination of CA, FL, and TX, depending on other factors. The damn things have been central to FL tourism and TX tourism for three decades. NY had nothing to do with it, and frankly doesn’t add anything to the tourist visits. There are a billion other things that attract tourists there. I see the value of one of the west coast because they did land there, and it would be accessible to regional tourists.

Shouldn’t they send one to Mecca? After all the muslims have made major contributions to out space effort... like...

ummm....

well....

Ok, but NASA’s mission is to make the jihadis feel better about themselves, right? So Mecca it is.

I see Seattle gets snubbed too. Even with the financially strapped city already spending millions on a facility to house a space shuttle. When I saw they were already building the facility, I said they would not get it and it would be money flushed down the toilet. I was right. Seattle is good at flushing money.

I can’t say that the selections are particularly poor; they seem kind of logical. It’s just disgusting that politics even figured in the calculation at all. Had Challenger and Columbia survived the length of the program, I’d have like to have seen one each allocated to Houston and Wright-Patterson.

Sorry. New York does not deserve a space shuttle.

Barry just wanted to screw Texas. I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole Johnson Space Center gets shut down.

Frankly, I’m surprised Riyadh didn’t get one.

Many Republicans in the Texas delegation are ideologues and they can't see anyway to make a deal.

Yeah, make a deal to have all your teeth pulled without novacaine.

Make a deal to have your firstborn burned alive.

Make a deal to drink Drano, topped off with a pint of battery acid.

Make a deal to have your toenails trimmed with a lawnmower.

I think we've had enough of your deals. And definitely Obummer's gonna find out that what goes around comes around. Personally I'll take every opportunity to give the man what he deserves.

Rockwell had a pretty convincing mock up in the Downey plant.
I'd think that would be more appropriate for the L.A. site because it shows part of the process of building such a machine.
Houston / JSC certainly should have received one of the flown shuttles.
Posing a space shuttle on the deck of an aircraft carrier is asinine, particularly since N.Y. had nothing to do with the program.

If they hadn't blown up two shuttles and killed 14 astronauts they'd have more intact shuttles to retire.

Kennedy makes sense, that's where they've all launched.

CA makes sense, it's where all were built and many missions ended.

Smithsonian makes sense, that's our "national museum."

But NY? Why there? TX had a stronger case.

The only reason Houston had anything to do with the whole thing from the start was political pork. The old look how many jobs I got here, never mind they took the money from the tax payers. The government is just so much better at spending your money.
