UN document would give 'Mother Earth' same rights as humans (Bug, Animal & Plant Rights)

Bolivia will this month table a draft United Nations treaty giving "Mother Earth" the same rights as humans — having just passed a domestic law that does the same for bugs, trees and all other natural things in the South American country.

The bid aims to have the UN recognize the Earth as a living entity that humans have sought to "dominate and exploit" — to the point that the "well-being and existence of many beings" is now threatened.

The wording may yet evolve, but the general structure is meant to mirror Bolivia's Law of the Rights of Mother Earth, which Bolivian President Evo Morales enacted in January.

That document speaks of the country's natural resources as "blessings," and grants the Earth a series of specific rights that include rights to life, water and clean air; the right to repair livelihoods affected by human activities; and the right to be free from pollution.

It also establishes a Ministry of Mother Earth, and provides the planet with an ombudsman whose job is to hear nature's complaints as voiced by activist and other groups, including the state.

"If you want to have balance, and you think that the only (entities) who have rights are humans or companies, then how can you reach balance?" Pablo Salon, Bolivia's ambassador to the UN, told Postmedia News. "But if you recognize that nature too has rights, and (if you provide) legal forms to protect and preserve those rights, then you can achieve balance."

The application of the law appears destined to pose new challenges for companies operating in the country, which is rich in natural resources, including natural gas and lithium, but remains one of the poorest in Latin America.

They have appointed themselves god, and therefore have taken it upon themselves to define the rights of everything.

It's the anti-Church. Or, if you prefer (and more in keeping with the vision of Dag Hammerskjold), it's the UN-Church. Its destiny is sealed.

“Well, I’d be in favor of giving everyone remotely connected to the UN the same rights that bugs currently enjoy....”

Unfortunately, it isn’t going to work that way). See post No. 7).

With rights come responsibilities - can the people of Japan sue mother earth for all the havoc associated with the earthquake and tsunami? Where do they go to collect damages?

And will mother earth be subject to capital punishment (or just indefinite confinement) for all the innocent souls she took in the aforementioned incidents?

The leaders of foreign countries realize Americans are sick. The excessive concern exhibited by Americans about animals, plants and minerals is a symptom of the sickness. For example, concern over the smelt allowing the destruction with the resulting transfer of land in the San Joaquin valley to new owners at bargain prices. Therefore, foreign governments will pass legislation that is aimed at curtailing any resurgence by the American people. Further, foreign governments know that the clowns that compose the current group running our country will sign on to any program harmful to American interests. Goofy programs will be "coming out of the walls!"

This last sentence says it all.

In a world gone mad, it should not be a surpeise thet the most backward, ignorant countries of the world feel entitled to make rules to control everyone, including the USA.

First the muslim, now Bolivia. Do we need to join the madness?

The UN has outlived its usefulness. It is a total drain on the developed world. What are we thinking?

"Rom 1:25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator"

Right on point. It is the culture of death to humans. We are the bacteria in these people's minds. Their "mother earth" worship is not new but goes back to the beginning of civilization. "There is nothing new under the sun"--Ecclesiastes.

Sometimes I have to wonder who is really behind the UN....

I have to sound like a Tin Foil Hat wearing weirdo, but lately a lot of the crap that comes out of the UN sounds like stuff that would come out of the mouth PR person from Mars who wants to use insidious plots to take over the world.

Bolivia is a country with a large indigenous population, whose traditional belief systems took on greater resonance following the election of Morales, Latin America's first indigenous president.

Alejandro Toledo (President of Peru, 2001-2006), doesn't count because he's educated and speaks fluent Spanish. From Wikipedia:

"Toledo is one of sixteen children of a family of indigenous campesinos of Quechua heritage... Later on, he attended Stanford University, where he received a master's in Economics, a master's in education, and completed his PhD in Economics of Human Resources (in 1993) at the Stanford University School of Education."

Well, he was created as an angel, has the name Lucifer, and is the enemy of mankind.

Move the UN to Libya and let them have a back to nature life style, like craping in the ditch.
