Dem member of Waukesha County Canvass Board raises concerns over process

The 80-year-old Dem member of the Waukesha County Board of Canvass who said the "numbers jibed" last week after the clerk announced a 14,000-vote error raised concerns today about the process.

Ramona Kitzinger was widely quoted following a Thursday news conference in which Clerk Kathy Nickolaus blamed human error for failing to include votes from Brookfield in the tally she sent to the media on Election Day. Once those votes were added into the statewide totals, it swung the election dramatically to Justice David Prosser by some 7,000 votes.

A statement from Kitzinger was posted on the Waukesha County Dem Party's website this afternoon in which she said she was speaking up now because many had perceived her comments at Thursday's news conference as confirmation the numbers Nickolaus announced on Thursday were valid and accurate.

At the news conference, she said, "We went over everything and made sure all the numbers jibed up and they did. Those numbers jibed up, and we're satisfied they're correct." She added, "I'm not going to stand here and tell you something that's not true."

Kitzinger said today there was no mention last week of the mistake while the canvass was conducted Wednesday and Thursday.

"In retrospect, it seems both shocking and somewhat appalling there was no mention of discovery of this 15,000 vote 'human error' that ultimately had the potential to tip the balance of an entire statewide election. How is this possible?" she said.

One the canvass was complete, she was pulled into a meeting with Nickolaus and the GOP member of the canvass board where they were told of an upcoming news conference and the mistake, though not the magnitude. Nickolaus explained what happened and showed them different tapes "where the numbers seemed to add up, though I have no idea where the numbers were coming from." She also said she was instructed she would not say anything at the news conference.

She said she remains "very, very confused" as to why the canvass was finished before she was told of the Brookfield error and that she told Nickolaus when called into the meeting that she is 80 and doesn't "understand anything about computers."

"I was never shown anything that would verify Kathy’s statement about the missing vote, and with how events unfolded and people citing me as an authority on this now, I feel like I must speak up," she said.

A county party spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Kitzinger did not immediately return a message left at a number listed for her in Waukesha County.

Jibe-talker Ramona Kitzinger trying to walk back her comments last week on what is now being referred to as "the Brookfield matter" when she said "we're satisfied they're correct".

She must have had some help from the Dems and unions to help un-solidify her thinking over the weekend.

Desperate people will grasp at any straw, no matter how flimsy.

Oh, puleeeze—There is never any “problem” when democrats suddenly keep finding trunkloads of ballots that give the dems a winning number of ballots.

God will call her soon - she’s 80.

She better not go with a big lie on her soul.

So the question is: Were you lying then, or are you lying now?

I’m confused. Is she szaying the 7000 vote lead is valid or not valid?

If I understand this correctly, she is saying that there were votes before there weren’t votes?

Sounds like the RATS tried to close the results before all the numbers came in and they tried to bypass her blessing of the ballots.

She’s 80 and probably doesn’t remember what happened yesterday, much less on election night.

Serously, it’s obvious since she’s a democrat she has been pursuaded to make a statement that she’s not on Prosser’s side. That’s all this amounts to.

A good analysis from NRO of this nonsense:

“. . . The thing people need to understand about this is that there is — if Nickolaus is telling the truth — a clear chain of custody of the vote numbers in question. The unofficial database sent by Nickolaus to the state the night of the election either has Brookfield votes or it doesn’t. More crucially, Brookfield either sent their vote totals to Nickolaus or they didn’t. If they did, there should be an electronic paper trail and the numbers that came out of Brookfield city hall should match the numbers Nickolaus reported after the canvass. If you still think this was fraud, you’re implicating not just Nickolaus but the city of Brookfield itself.

The other thing to remember is that the discrepancy, as I understand it, is between official and unofficial numbers. The unofficial numbers were wrong. The official ones were right. The unofficial numbers were unofficial precisely because they were electronically transferred from municipalities to the counties and eventually to the state, in large part so that outfits like the Associated Press could call the election on Tuesday night. The official numbers were official precisely because they depended on a thorough examination — observed by Republicans and Democrats — of the actual voting tapes.”

Clearly her job is to create uncertainty and doubt so the “smarter people” can step in after discrediting her comments from last week that seemed to erase any doubt that the results were “jibed-up”. I’m sure she will be seeing a whole nuther side to her beloved party through this deal.

At best, she’s demonstrated that she’s an unreliable witness.

“the discrepancy, as I understand it, is between official and unofficial numbers”

Correct. The unofficial total that the AP was given late on election night inadvertently did not include the Brookfield votes for either candidate. This will all work out as you say through examination of the records, the chain of custody of the votes was never in question and no court in the land will say that the voters from Brookfield should be disenfranchised.

She is saying that as an 80 year old lady, she is confused by the magic box on the desk that people use to conduct business these days. When in doubt, blame modern society for trouble.

80 years old and very confused? Boy, there's a shock. For the record, the Brookfield votes, all 14K+, were posted on the city's website ON election night. Waukesha County numbers, due to the failure to include Brookfield votes, showed ZERO votes for the city of Brookfield. Riiiiight. Once the votes were added to the County totals, EVERYTHING matched and there IS a hard paper trail for of ALL votes cast in the County. Rats are still in catatonic disbelief.

Good-night, Irene.

Unofficial = AP (AP is not the arbiter of votes!)
Official = Clerk Kathy Nickolaus

That should be the end of it!

I do not think anyone who saw her statement at the press conference will buy the notion that she was a confused 80 year old lady. She was sharp, and she answered the question with no hesitation whatsoever. “Everthing jibed up.” The RAT liars got to her over the weekend and are trying to water down what she said, but they are going to have a tough sell.
