PHILADELPHIA (CBS) The Pennsylvania SPCA is working overtime this morning, raiding homes across the city breaking up what officials are calling the largest dogfighting ring theyve ever seen in this city.
Officials say this dogfighting ring has been under surveillance for awhile. And late last night, early this morning, the Pennsylvania SPCA with Philadelphia police acting on a tip that fights were happening, raided a home on the 2600 block of Gerritt Street.
Pennsylvania SPCA director of law enforcement, George Bengal says when they entered the house, there were around 25 people watching a fight in progress.
They actually ran, and left the dogs in the ring fighting, unattended when we entered the property.
Those two dogs that were fighting, Bengal says are in pretty bad shape. In all six dogs were taken from that house. And 15-20 people were arrested facing animal cruelty and felony dogfighting charges.
At about 7 a.m. Monday, officials raided another home this one in Kensington where Bengal says they found 12 dogs stacked in cages in the basement alongside a collection of drugs, weapons, and dog fighting paraphernalia.
That's defined by society. Once, libs and others outnumber you they define cruelty.
I'm for treating my property and letting others treat their property they way they want.
I like steak, and I'm not gonna attack a farmer by the way he treats his cattle, no matter if others define it as 'cruel'.
Some people feel it is their duty to make fun of any efforts made to protect animals.
They somehow rationalize that doing so takes away from efforts to protect humans.
It’s just their weird and wrong way of thinking, but I see them on a lot of dog threads.
Indeed.
Of course it’s just the sterling segment of society with high integrity that frequents dog fights...............
You are a sicko; torturing living things is illegal; there is a huge difference between running a race and fighting to the death
I cannot understand the sport of extreme fighting. I realize the fighters make the decision to fight and the dog does not. The extreme fighting is barbaric.
Nonsense. Once again, either you have property rights or you don’t.
see post 13
And a stich in time saves nine and other irrelevant aphorisms
then the police are doing their jobs when they bust up these rings
Yes no doubt they should be arrested. But as far as I know the police never caught the perpetrators who did this which I would rank as a higher priority than animal cruelty. In fact there were roughly 40 unsolved murders in Philidelphia in 2010. Every one of which I would rank as a higher priority than animal cruelty. SO you may think that the police in Philly are doing a fine job, but I think they're picking the low hanging fruit and letting the more important but harder stuff go.
They probably are, and they probably should be arrested on general principles anyway, but Philly has a homicide problem and the police are concentrating on the easy safe stuff like this and meanwhile the murder rate in 2011 is outstripping the 2010 rate significantly.
I respectfully suggest that you take it up with the Philadelphia Chief of Police. I'm just positive that he'll accept your orders and directives with kindness and understanding regarding your superior intellect and ability to run his PD.
From Georgia.
On information gleaned from ABC news no less.
About a single crime.
[sorry, I got distracted by the eagles flying over my back yard looking for (probably) rodents. They live over at the lake about three miles from here.]

I really can't figure out what you expect me to do about it, but you may keep ranting at me if you wish.
Actually if you had read to to end of my post it was about 40 unsolved murders, not one, but you had to get your smart assed comment in about the philly chief of police thus showning your ignorance,
In case you hadn't noticed this is a forum where opinions are occasionally posted. If you disagree with mine as you obviously do please feel free to refute it factually. If you want to join the ranks of a$$holes cluttering FR who resort to insulting those they disagree with then feel free to do so also, but don't expect anything but insults in return.
Dogs are animals. My whole point was not on the merits or lack thereof on prosecuting dog fighting, but I personally consider humans to be FAR more important than animals, and with approximately 40 unsolved murders left from 2010 and the 2011 murder rate significantly higher than 2010, I can't see wasting police detective time on small stuff like this when there are quite a few people running around Philly who have actually killed other people (and probably will again). Apparently the dog lovers value dogs higher than people, although I'm willing to bet that most of them have no qualms about eating beef. Doesn't make sense to me.
You are one sick bastard.
Lemme guess... You’re a dog fighting enthusiast?
You have a lot of class.
See post 13 - I’m trying to figure out if you’re too stupid to respond rationally or too much of a jerk. I think I’ll go with C. All of the above.
What “post 13”?
Your logic is faulty. The fact they arrested these guys does not mean they were ignoring other crimes. They probably found out this crime while investigating another crime. Drug dealers use pit bulls to guard their dope. They can also fight them and make money.
I used to wonder how people could justify slavery but after reading your post, I think I know how.
If you don't understand that difference; hints at the distorted view that you and other animal lovers have.
