Like it or not, the Dems still control the White House and Senate. They are in a position to negotiate. The Republicans got about all they were going to get under the circumstances. Anyone who thought the GOP was going to steamroll to a complete victory was fooling themselves.
The Founders set up a system of checks and balances. They worked last week as designed. Each side can shut the system down, but can’t DO anything without the cooperation of the other side.
Which means we never get everything we want. As the Founders intended.
If you want a “change everything on a dime” system, you’ll have to switch to a European parliament/cabinet system. Much more efficient.
You mean the same Paul Ryan who authored and voted for the bill that created the single largest entitlement program since the (not so)Great Society? That Paul Ryan? He's our "only hope"? We're so screwed.......
The Republican House does not control the government. How hard is it for people to understand that?
They simply don’t.
They are only one of the 3 prongs of approving legislation. The 2 other prongs can outvote them bigtime.
Obama is going to make a nationwide speech and put tax increases on the table. This all may yet turn in our favor.
Seriously, is Bob Lonsberry really stupid enough to think we were going to get a trillion dollar budget cut, when we don’t even control the Senate and the Presidency?
Is Bob Lonsberry really stupid enough to have missed the much more important point that, for the first time in living memory, the GOP actually forced the Dims to accept an outright CUT in spending, as opposed to a mere “reduction in the growth of spending”?
Yes, I see that he really IS that stupid. That’s why I don’t waste my time reading him.
I can imagine there were SOME Green Bay Packer fans REALLY pissed off that they only beat the Steelers by 6 and not 60.
The fact is, BO's final FY 2011 budget was $78B or so LESS than he wanted. Remember, he only gets to PROPOSE a budget. The failing Democrats, under Nasty Pelozi and Dingy Hairy never passed anything.
So essentially, this was a Republican win--BO got LESS than he asked for.
Could it have been better? Hell yes. But let's stop the bee-otching, okay? Take a win and move on to the next battle.

They were all cowards.

it was a sell out..what pet slush funds did any of them give up..what waste did they get rid of? none.. and you dont have to cut ss or medicare to balance the budget..just cut congress.
It took 50 years to get where we are and this “loss” as you so ridiculously put it has set the precedent of reduced spending. From a proposed budget which was to have a 40 billion dollar INCREASE we have one which shows a 39 billion dollar reduction. My math skills tell me that is a swing of 80 billion dollars.
Your logic is the same as the sports fan who pisses and moans because his team scored 5 runs to win instead of scoring 55 and winning.
You are the typical all or nothing ideologue and your kind seldom ever wins because you continually overstep the boundaries. It is the fatal flaw of the Left and you seem to suffer from it yourself.
I hate to tell you this but Ryan, Cantor and McCarthy are not the “young guns” They are just “the young country club republicans” Boehner wannbes. Thats why folks like Rand Paul and Michelle Bachmann are not included in the inner circle. Paul Ryan’s budget plan goes out at least 10 years and is contingent on the unemployment rate falling to 2.8%. Thanks to NAFTA That giant sucking sound you have been hearing is all the jobs going out of the country never to return. We don’t have 10 years. We may not have 2 years. We are Greece, Spain and Portugal looking for a place to happen.
I’m willing to wait a couple of months to see how the GOP plays the debt ceiling and the new 2012 budget. First they need to vote no on the debt ceiling being raised. Then the negotiations for the 2012 budget will be easy. If you can’t borrow any more money you cannot write up another bloated budget. I’m not very optimistic but lets see what happens.
So conservatives are supposed to start whining now? What kind of stupid article is this, pragmatism is becoming a lost word.
A war is not won by a single battle alone, anyone (including the teapartiers) who think that the Titanic can be turned in an instant is living in fantasy land.
Keep your eye on the prize people, losing focus on stupidity does not get us where we need to be.
“GOP” and “sellout” have appeared in the same sentence for so long that one would think dumb Republican primary voters would have figured out that all is not well in Denmark.
