Like it or not, the Dems still control the White House and Senate. They are in a position to negotiate. The Republicans got about all they were going to get under the circumstances. Anyone who thought the GOP was going to steamroll to a complete victory was fooling themselves.

Amen! That is the reality. Pray, work....and keep heading to 2012...
We have to be aggressive but realistic. This deal was not good, but it was a step in the right direction. IMO, the mistake was upfront....going for too little and allowing the debate to be about a narrow set of social issues, NPR, etc. The GOP needs to be aggressive and continue to play off the mood of the country. Go for more across the board cuts and prevent the narrative the left loves to go to ...sob stories about killing women. They use the same template no matter what the proposal, so go for more in exchange and play it so the majority can clearly get behind us.. Fight their little ideas with big ideas that the majority of Americans are for. There is zero chance we see massive change until we get a different president and Senate, so much of this is just posturing for 2012.
I agree with those that believe that Boehner did a very fine job last week. It was a great preliminary to the main event that will be coming in the future few weeks with the National Debt limit. That will keep the momentum moving in the right direction and even though it may increase the debt limit somewhat it will require another debt limit battle, maybe a few months later on that will provide another opportunity to keep cutting the budgetary spending.
Keep it going.
While like most others, I want and expect more, I think the Republicans played it pretty well. The only thing really surprising me so far about the new divided government is that Reid has been able to keep the dem caucus in lock step. I expected some of those facing re-election in 2012 to defect. Have to think this has something to do with Reid not doing anything with HR-1.
I think the debate over HR-1 flushed Obama out on the budget. If what were seeing about his speech this week is true, he is going to recommend a bunch of tax increases right as election season starts. I am confident Boehner won't push for tax increases, but it will be great to hear all the Democrats yammering for them prior to 2012.
Agree! It amazes me how many FReepers don’t get it!
It was a battle, not the war.
I really get tired of these “I want it all, and I want it right now” commenter's. They do not get all that they want, right now, so they cry and threaten to take their ball and go home. Whiners.
The patriots lost most of the battles of the Revolution, but we still have these United States.
The U.S. lost most of the battles of the War of 1812, but here we are.
The North lost most of the battles of the “civil war”, but still we have one nation.
The Japanese won at Pearl harbor and in the Philippines and the Nazis beat us a Kasserine Pass, guess who won?
Whining and quitting because you did not get all you wanted is very childish. Take what you can get and keep fighting.
Nibbling them to death may be tiring and take a long time, but at least it prolongs their agony.
Did They defund NPR or the corporation for public broadcasting?
How about defunding the CZARS?
