They gathered in HC-5 all week talking sometimes complaining loudly about where the party was headed in the budget crisis. Many said House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) didnt share enough information. Others were peeved he wasnt pushing for deep enough cuts. Some were ready for a government shutdown.
And on Friday night, Boehner himself was unsure what would happen. Halfway through a closed-door meeting of House Republicans, an aide approached Boehner, slipped him a piece a paper, which he read and quickly pocketed.
He then stepped to the podium, and announced what everyone had been waiting for.
We have a deal, the Ohio Republican said around 10:30 p.m.
And with that, Boehner had something more a defining moment in his speakership and a chance to set aside questions about his ability to manage an unwieldy caucus of conservatives, at least for now.
The 61-year-old, swept into the speakers chair during last Novembers GOP landslide, faced down two Democrats Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and answered doubts from the conservative movement about whether he was a true believer.

$38 is just the deal done yesterday for part of the year.
At first our Republican heroes told us they would cut $100 billion
Then they told us they would cut $60 billion
Last night they told us they were only cutting $38 billion and use tax dollars to murder unborn babies.
“THEY SHOULD HAVE **STARTED** AT $500B, negotiated down TO A CUT OF $300 Billion!!!”
Exactly.
Boehner is a Big Boy and he understands the budget negotiation process. He started at 100 billion knowing that by the time a deal was reached it would have been far below 50 billion.
And the GOP surrendered in this first battle. Just ask yourself why Pollutico is praising Boehner. That should raise all kinds of red flags.
Boehner is going to get thrashed for this failure, regardless. We're way past accepting failure to invoke and fight for the agenda at this point.
Compromise is what the enemy wants...us to concede and continue to concede where they, in return, never concede anything. That's how we've gotten here.
Compromise is now akin to surrender, IMHO, especially since we are further endangered by any compromise with treasoncrats.
Not sure why.
John BONER thinks that he was elected to ‘keep the government running’, not cut it down to achieve sustainability.

Amazing that CNN is allowing this....very ?AMAZING!
What was he elected for?
Indeed
Yep. I even called Newt's office and advised them that they couldn't cave no matter what. They agreed they wouldn't. What happened, they caved. And that is why they were beaten. And that is why we were beaten here. I no longer think our leadership believes in the America that we believe in. If they do then they don't have the courage God gave a baby chick.
