The bipartisan deal struck Friday falls short of the House Republican campaign pledge to cut $100 billion in fiscal 2011 spending.
The pact cuts $78.5 billion when compared to President Obama's fiscal 2011 budget request, which was never enacted.
The accord cuts $39 billion in actual spending, $22 billion less than bill the House passed in February.
In a brief interview, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told The Hill the agreement was "as good a deal as we could get."
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), chairman of the Republican Study Committee, said he expects "significant" opposition from conservatives, both to the short-term fix and the long-term spending bill. He said he will vote against both

Let's get real folks, the RATS still control the Senate and Obama has the WH.
We are going in the right direction and I am grateful for that.
That's it! The Tea Party turned the debate from a question, "What should we buy next?" to a statement, "Stop spending and pay off the bills!"
Big victory? You can't be serious. We're running a $1.5 TRILLION annual budget deficit. This nation is accumulating debt at the rate of $6 million/minute. We added over $260 BILLION to the debt just in March alone. Gubmint spending went up 25% in the past two years and kicking the can down the road for another week is the "best deal we could get"? Where again is the "big victory"? The only "big victory" is the victory won for the status quo......
I agree.
This thread is full of ignorant, juvenile comments from FReepers that should never be allowed to vote because, in my opinion, they say things as stupid as the people who want their “Obama Money”.
Politics is a dirty, ugly fecal-infected fight over who rides on top of the turd while the toilet is flushing.
They could break with the military....but not for long. An unpaid military tends to overthrow those who don't pay them.
You are right. And I would have expected better from Freepers than saying this is a “Big Win.”
But I guess we saved our “political capital”!
I guess we are not broke as a country as long as we all have our political capital, right?
Maybe we can give our “political capital” to posterity.
They won’t have a strong country, or a strong economy, or any wealth, but by God, at least Republicans didn’t give away any political capital!
Boy that would have been horrible if we lost that.

I suppose you would have been the British officer that ordered the charge of the Light Brigade. A charge into the cannons on both sides of the dead ended valley will only chew up and make a bloody pulp of fine cavalry.
Given the strong emplacement and the inability to take the high ground, a better course is to post snipers and knock off as many officers as stick up their heads above the ramparts.
The basic assumption, a win, is fallacious. Kill what you can, while you can and make the cavalry charge on better ground.
We’re so screwed.
$39 billion in actual cuts?!
Our government spends $9.6 billion PER DAY. This $39b cut is enough to run the government for FOUR DAYS.
So, what are we going to do next wednesday after we spend the money Boner just saved us?
I disagree. Our deficit problem, all $1.6 trillion/yr of it, could be solved with ZERO votes. All they have to do is let the government shut down then refuse to authorize a raise to the debt ceiling when that comes up in a couple of weeks. Presto, instant balanced budget.
But they won’t do that. We have nobody in the Federal government working to actually solve the problem. NOBODY.
Boner is in the Rove wing of the Whig Party. I fully expect them to trot out Jeb Bush for the next election.
He must have lost his copy of the Pledge to America....
An my way or the highway approach won't work. Take to hard of a line and after the next election we will find ourselves in the position we were in the previous two years when all our futures were in the hands of Reid and Pelosi.
For years the libs takes a bite at a time and over time have changed our way of life. Those that think we are going to return in one big swoop on the budget are dreaming.
Take this bite then take another and another. That will work, shutting things down and turning off the voters will not work.
How Rovarian.
A cancer which is growing more slowly just lets you die more slowly.
I'll take that bet.
Gee, how original and how deep thought you must have put into that one.
Which really points out the problem with this site right now as opposed to when I started following Free Republic about 1999 or so.
Then there were people who put thought into topics and made intelligent analysis. Now it's just a bitch session like your post.
It is really not all that complicated if one can add and subtract.
I was one of those that stood to be furloughed and miss some paychecks. Unlike so many who say they want cuts, but not if it affects them, I was praying for them to stand fast and insist. I may be a DoD civilian now, but 24 years in uniform will never dissipate the duty/honor/country attitude. Let's hope enough Americans saw through the Dims baseness and who will get behind the Tea Part movement and PUSH these whimps.
