As we draw closer to a government shutdown, I have been reading with great interest. You see, I am a federal employee employed at Fort Drum as a civilian mail clerk. I am looking at the possibility of a furlough for as long as it takes for Congress to reach an agreement. It could be days or it could be weeks, but regardless of how long, I am more concerned at how much. How much will this affect my family? How much will it hurt us financially? The uncertainty is maddening as I, and my fellow federal workers, watch the stage show that is called Washington Politics gamble with our way of making a living.

Hey Federal drone. You omitted a proper link in your post so that we could delve deeper into this compelling sob story
To the Federal employee: And, just who did you vote for in the last presidential election?????????
I bet I can guess.
And now you pay the price. Karma!
That means that some people will lose their jobs. It means some families will suffer. That is a true shame, but it is absolutely unavoidable.
Some so-called "Conservatives" want spending to be cut -- just so long as no one loses their job, no benefits are cut, and no changes are made in how government does business.
Well ... change is gonna come.
” who are they coming to dehumanize next? “
First, they came for the smokers.....
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
Get a real job. WE ARE BROKE!! AND NO MORE TAxES!! if you doubt that in anyway please review the current make up of the House of Representatives. DEMOCRATS are shutting down the government because they are PARASITES. But the host be throwing them off —real bad.
It’s a real bitch when the public teat dries up, isn’t it?
I am a federal employee - hear me whine!
I am a retired frderal employee and I say SUT IT DOWN!!! I will survive regardless of my annuity or not!
You are wrong. I took annual leave for the Clinton shutdown. Our time sheets had to go in before the pay issue was resolved and you had to vote for no pay or annual leave. The decision to provide back pay came later.
Proving again...most government employees can only do one-half the job that employees in the private sector can do.
With so many unemployed, and so many businesses closed or closing, people losing their cars/homes/life savings, etc. and this postal worker is whining about a few days or weeks? Give me a break. Guess they will have to "tighen their belts," as Obama told the rest of us. Guess electing Zero and supporting Reid and Pelosi didn't give them the "change" that they "hoped."
Which Union do you belong to?
All that want a scalpel are Rinos and democrats..
The federal gov't needs a bullet to the head.. gutted and dismembered..
Shut it down sounds great, means nothing.
Reduce it, that will be the real solution.
Ditto’s here as well.
Finally, a feel good story. Thanks!
I’m a federal employee and I say shut it down. I would rather eat beans for a month or two than continue down this path.
I am a Federal employee. I’ve had friends laid off in the private sector, so I don’t have a thing to complain about, even if I don’t get paid. I’ve kept my skills up to date, should worse come to worst.
I also have a young son, and I care far more about the future of this country than I do about missing a paycheck or two. If a shutdown can help bring about necessary cuts, then a shut down is a necessity.
