Mayor Tom Menino issued an executive order to ban the sale of sugary drinks on Boston city property on Thursday.
I want to make this a healthier choice, the easier choice in peoples daily lives, whether its the schools, the work sites or other places in the community, Menino said.
The mayors office, along with the Boston Public Health Commission, said Menino is issuing this order because of the link between sugary drinks and rising obesity rates and health care costs.

Wonder if he’ll make everyone start drinking their coffee black.
Really! My dad has been in that situation on a few occasions.
See how that socialized medicine works? The people paying for it get to dictate how you live your life....what used to be your life.
....ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES....
....you people in Boston should ban Menino from Boston government properties.....
Since there’s no sugar in diet Coke, I presume it will still be available /s (I did not read the article because i don’t want to give them the click)
Nope didn’t see this one coming......Can’t say we didn’t warn everyone. How are those bans of smoking on privat property looking now?
Sadly, they are just getting started.....
Keep voting for those democrats,M*SSholes!
Next, convenient stores located near the facilities will be forced to NOT sell sugary drinks.
Oh, they won’t go that far, will they?
It would be fun to walk into city hall carrying a sixpack of coke and even drinking one.
Never forget that they must be willing to enforce any legislation via government force. In other words, they must be willing to shoot you for drinking sugary drinks.
If you allow them to control transfats and sugar drinks then next will come bans on red meat, then pork then all chicken except “free range” birds.
After that, they will demand that you bow, tug your forelock and say “Thank you, Master” when they give you your half cup of boiled rice flavored with fish head soup.
Nothing quite like the tyrant that knows what’s best for you...

I suppose now would be a bad time to point out the billions of dollars that Democrats in Washington shell out every year to support the SUGAR INDUSTRY...
Naa, you'll be shot for "resisting arrest" or "trying to escape".
Kinda reminds you of the Democrat mayor who was driving home late one evening after a Party function at which he had consumed too much "adult" beverage. On a dark road he hit two Republicans walking home from a Tea Party meeting.
One man went through the windshield of the Democrat's car and ended up in the back seat. The other was knocked down the road about 75 feet.
The Democratic sheriff shows up, says "Howdy, Mr. Mayor!"
The mayor moans "Oh this is terrible!"
The sheriff looks at the one in the back seat and tells the deputy, "Send this one to the morgue"!
The mayor moans even louder, "He's dead? Oh no, I'm going to prison!"
Sheriff says, "Well, he says he's not, but you know how those Tea Party folks lie!" We will just charge him with "Breaking & Entering".
The mayor asks, "What about the one down the road?"
Sheriff says, Don't work about home, either. We'll charge him with "Leaving the Scene of an Accident." He'll get a few years for that. Oh, and thank you Mr. mayor for that generous donation you've just made to the Sheriff's Benevolence Fund!"
Appearantly alcohol is still available.
Lefty Doublespak from Big Brother Menino; actually, he wants to eliminate your choice.
Speak English Mumbles!
Because we make our own neither my husband nor I have to worry about embarrassing our daughter if we forget to leave our cigarettes in the car when we attend a function at her school.
When she was in elementary school, sodas were forbidden but not for any of the reasons in this article..........they just didn’t want the mess that occurs with shaken cans, intentional or otherwise :)
We warned them, didn’t we? They chose to ignore the warnings at their own peril.
Which is exactly why sugar is now so bloody expensive.
Mumbles is a moron.
