Mayor Tom Menino issued an executive order to ban the sale of sugary drinks on Boston city property on Thursday.

“I want to make this a healthier choice, the easier choice in people’s daily lives, whether it’s the schools, the work sites or other places in the community,” Menino said.

The mayor’s office, along with the Boston Public Health Commission, said Menino is issuing this order because of the link between sugary drinks and rising obesity rates and health care costs.

First they ban SALE, then CONSUMPTION, then POSSESSION. This was the cradle of liberty in America, becoming more and more like Stalin’s USSR. Why not an “executive order” telling people to get up off their fat sedentary asses and go work out in a friggin’ GYM??? UP YOURS, TOM!!!!

Is there scientific proof that obesity causes health problems like diabetes? Or, are both problems the consequence of age?

For example, I used to be 120 lbs and ate like a horse when I was 25. Now, 15 years later, 2000 calories is all I can handle.

“I want to make this a healthier choice, the choice I CHOOSE for them” is what he should have said.

I get so irritated by hearing people talking about “healthy choices” because by saying that they take away ANY choice.

link between sugary drinks and rising obesity rates and health care costs.

Mighty big claim to not cite a source. I love the way the MSM just passes along assertions like this one uncritically.

This is Barbara Ferrera of the Boston Health Board
A shining example of what people are supposed to look like
And strive to be like
So belly-up to the low-fat sugar-free soymilk bar

The Board also banned smoking in all Boston hotels, establishments outdoor areas and loading docks and banned cigarette sales in pharmacies

Party hearty now - Soda will be banned there soon.

People shouldn't be able to purchase soda in drug stores-duh

Drinking a soda before going to sleep in a hotel room will make people gain weight

Outdoor diners shouldn't be seen sipping sodas

Think of the Childrun

That is eaxctly what I ws thinking.I am a type 1 which IS NOT caused by too much sugar or weight it is an autioimmune diease and I do carry juice with me but on occassion what I can carry with me is not enough and I may need a drink with sugr in it. For someone like me this can be life threatening.
