NEW YORK Becks departure from Fox News marks the welcome removal of an incendiary talk-show host who reveled in apocalyptic shtick and the politics of incitement, writes John Avlon. Plus, the Fox-Beck divorce. The nightly nervous breakdown will not be televised. Glenn Beck is going off the air on Fox News. It is a remarkable reversal of fortune for a man who one year ago was banking $32 million annually, teaching Americans how to fear-monger for fun and profit. But with his ratings down nearly 50 percent and advertisers abandoning the show, Becks apocalyptic shtick has been getting rancid fast. Its almost hard to remember that not so long ago Glenn Beck was being taken seriously as a political figure by hyper-partisans on the far right. The proto-Tea Party rally on Capitol Hill in 2009 was directly inspired by Beck. This past summer, he filled one-third of the Washington Mall with his faithful for what turned out to be a religious revival with political overtones, on the anniversary of the Martin Luther Kings "I Have a Dream" speech. There were even, it is now surreal to say, calls for him to run for president on a ticket with Sarah Palina draft movement that they had to deny.

Glenn Beck is an American patriot and deserves all our support.
John Avlon is an American enemy and should be arrested for treason.
Beck is correct more often than not. That makes him unpopular and his message becomes a cumulative "Debbie the Downer" after a while. American media is all about making people feel good while entertaining them. Beck's messages made people feel really bad while he entertained them. The people had no tools or experience in processing the realities Beck delivered.
Why is Thar rag still around ?
Democrats: the party of complete distruction.
It’s a shame they hadn’t targeted BOR...... that’s the POS that needs to go.
Think what one may about Beck and his style/show, the man has done great things for America.
I couldn't agree more...shame the Neville Chamberlain wing of FR disagrees...
Seriously does anyone read Time magazine anymore?
Even at Becks lowest ratings most of the MSM talking heads could still only fantasize about ratings like he has.
No wonder O’Reilly has her on all the time...
Time?
People still read that?
Yes the show DID make me feel bad sometimes.
But that was my fault for being a p*ssy. Now I learned to use the info he gave me to prepare for things that could happen.
Now I sleep better.
Absolutely. A true patriot. Had he been around back then, he could have been one of our Founders.
There are things I didn’t care about him and his show, But I will sure miss him and all that he does for our country.
John Avlon is a shrill, hand-wringing liberal foot soldier of limited writing talent and a lightweight in intellectual ability. His most notable issue with Beck is jealousy. If you're looking for sanctimonious leftist commentary skimpily clothed in moderate-rational drag, Avlon's your man.
It’s all so incestuous. Thanks for this interesting information!
People on the left (and some on the right) are just way too obsessed with Glenn Beck.
Thanks for that info. Hoover’s liberal schtick and grating voice cause me to hit the TV’s “Off” button almost as fast as when I mistakenly surf into The View. Now it all makes sense. Birds of a feather.
So much jealousy from the left.
