I just found evidence that Donald Trump at least considered running in the upcoming presidential election 7 year ago. In December 2004 his organization registered the domain "trump2012.com":

I'll pass.
If you run around supporting a liberal like Trump, in my book, that means you're either a dummy or a liberal. That sounds redundant for a good reason.

He said in the interview posted above that to run he has to give up his TV show. Apparently he really likes his TV show but he also believes the US is screwed.....good interview if you have 10 minutes to watch.
I am looking forward to hearing what Trump has to say as well. Our economy is crashing and without someone who can take a failing “company” and turn it around, nothing else is going to matter. What I also like about Trump is that he will get in the face of the media and will hold nothing back. Our media is a big problem.
Why so militant old timer? It's duly noted, you aren't voting for Trump. Since he hasn't even declared yet I don't see why you are being so hostile.
The best candidate is not necessarily the guy who wants the job, it’s the guy who runs because he is afraid of who will get the job if he doesn’t run. And I think Trump is afraid.
I don’t call defending conservatism on the webs premier conservative forum being “militant”. Nor is it militant pointing out the facts related to Trump’s life long liberalism. That is one reason why FR exists.
If defending Reagan means I get hostile, so be it.
“Reagan was not as obsessive about anti-abortion legislation as he often seemed. Early in his California governorship he had signed a permissive abortion bill that has resulted in more than a million abortions. Afterward, he inaccurately blamed this outcome on doctors, saying that they had deliberately misinterpreted the law.
When Reagan ran for president, he won backing from pro-life forces by advocating a constitutional amendment that would have prohibited all abortions except when necessary to save the life of the mother. Reagans stand was partly a product of political calculation, as was his tactic after he was elected of addressing the annual pro-life rally held in Washington by telephone so that he would not be seen with the leaders of the movement on the evening news. While I do not doubt Reagans sincerity in advocating an anti-abortion amendment, he invested few political resources toward obtaining this goal.”

If I had to choose between The Donald and The One, the choice would be obvious. But that better not be the Pubbies’ final answer. We have work to do in the primaries. I am SO tired of choosing between ‘the lesser of two evils.’
Are you saying Trump is not pro-life, as he claims he is?

You must not know a lot of independent voters. The idea of voting for a celebrity businessman is a very easy sell to about 1/3 of the electorate. The same 1/3 that voted for Biden's clean, articulate black man. Wring your hands at the state of the American electorate, but that swing middle vote is fickle. The One's novelty burned bright, but now it's fading fast. The Donald can suck that swing voter oxygen out of the room in a way that, oh, I dunno, Tim Pawlenty can't.
In saner times, Trump wouldn't have a blessed chance at the Republican nomination, much less the White House. But, times have changed. If you take off the conservative lens, and look at him in relation to the American people at large, it's pretty clear that his odds of winning a general election are really quite good.
I’m beginning to think that it would be worth a chance to try and elect Trump. He would have nothing to lose in an attempt to save this country. What would have to happen though is that all, and I mean all, Republicans would have to get behind him. Massive campaigns would have to support Trump. Maybe it’s time to say yes to Trump and go to work for a change.
He does a great job with the media. He just simply comes out and states his answers, straightfowardly. It’s easy to see they are taken aback.
I’m on the right side of moral issues, but if we don’t save this ailing country, we will have larger problems ...like getting enough food to eat and keeping roofs over our heads, and ultimately, fending off some horrific enemies.
Let the dude get in, enable us to save the country financially, THEN tackle the moral issues.
Perhaps if some of our welfare and socialism parasites actually saw what it means to work hard and be prosperous, they’d take a different line — clean themselves up, start to work hard. I believe it’s evident that to do these things, you need to stay straight, keep your nose clean, etc.
I believe Trump represents a lot about what is GREAT about Americans — a person not afraid to take risks, a person who works hard, educates himself, and doesn’t answer to anyone — is INDEPENDENT of influence because he makes GREAT money. If that isn’t the American way, I don’t know what else is. We need way more Trumps than we do the other ...
In prosperous times, too much of the female vote looked to the Dem big government policies to protect them. The government is going broke. They may now be looking for a strong father-figure type to reassure them.....Obama ain’t it.
You cannot get the american woman to vote for a person, that has a trophy wife, trump has had three of them. That is just a fact of life.
