Science Daily ^ | Apr. 6, 2011 | Science Daily

With efforts underway to ban lead-based ammunition as a potential health and environmental hazard, scientists are reporting new evidence that a prime alternative material for bullets -- tungsten -- may not be a good substitute The report, which found that tungsten accumulates in major structures of the immune system in animals, appears in ACS' journal Chemical Research in Toxicology.

Tungsten bullets. Then you have the anti-gunners complaining that they are armor piercing bullets.

"Unintended" my butt, they've been pushing this little gambit for over a decade.

Check out this thread from 2001. I suggest reading the whole thread, as it is a good example of what FreeRepublic used to be like.

The ban on lead shot because of its toxicity to fish and fowl turns out to have absolutely no basis in fact.

Steel shot results in many more "cripples," which are eaten by scavenger species that ingest the steel pellets, resulting ion some harm to them!

There are natural lead deposits in streams with water flowing over the lead ore. The fish in the stream are considered safe because the small amount of lead absorbed through the water isn’t dangerous.

Now if the lead is directly in the fish’s food chain, that is a different matter. But when have you heard of a fish eating a lead sinker? The lead has to be in their food change for there to be a significant danger.

Tungsten military ammunition has ALREADY been found to cause respiratory damage to those using it, and has a possibly much more damaging effect to the environment than lead.

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2009/04/21/warning-tungsten-bullets-could-be-a-health-hazard/

BTW, lead has been mined all over the US since colonial times. The mines are near towns usually called "Galena." The lead scare began with urban kids eating a lead paint compound called "lead acetate," the old-fashioned name of which was "Sugar of Lead." They ate it because the flakes of old white paint are sweet. They chewed on the window sills of the slum housing to which an unfair and obviously racist America condemned them. NPR covered it.

The "scientific" theory was advanced that lead poisoning from this source was causing African-American inner city youth to suffer brain damage and as night follows day, this was deduced to be the cause of their inferior school performance. Eureka! That's why they do so badly!

That's all she wrote, folks. Lead-based paints are therefore racist and must never be used again. Lead must be banned because women, children, and minority groups suffer most. Lead ammunition? No way, José. It be lead, ergo it's racist, an environmental hazard, and used by slave-owning white Republican men in bizarre hunting rituals and the Democrats must and will put a stop to that! Never mind that it was the Democrats who owned the slaves. It was the Republicans who freed them. Minor point

The obvious solution is petrified wood.
Imagine vast fields of bullet trees stretching across the horizon.

They libtards want a green bullet, I say let us give them green bullets. Paint them green. Then when something is killed by a bullet we can say at least it died from a green bullet.
If they believe that it is not green we can show that it is a green colored bullet.

Wow. Tungsten fishing weights and tungsten bullets.

Hunting must be very expensive anymore.
